Padbury CE School Newsletter AutumnTerm 2017

Issue 7 8th November 2017

Our value this half term is ‘Thankfulness’

Philippians 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Book Fair

We will be holding a Book Fair at school next Tuesday, 14th November from 2-4pm, in the school hall. This will allow you to browse before collecting your children, who can then join you at 3pm. The more books you buy the more the school will benefit, so please do come along and support this event. Book Fair fliers will also be going out in book bags today. Please bring these with you on the day as five of them will win the lucky holders £5 to spend on the day.Your lucky number can be found in the top left hand corner of the flyer.

Payment can be made by cheque (made payable to Padbury CE School) or cash please on the day.

£1.00 drop off trial to Board Games Club

For the remainder of this term we are trialling a new facility for parents. You will be able to drop your child off at school between 8.25 am and 8.35 am for £1 without pre-booking. All you would need to do is bring them with payment to the Hall door by the Office Entrance and sign the arrival register. You can start using this facility from tomorrow. Please remember to bring your £1, if we have to invoice you it will be at the ad hoc cost of £2.50.

Remembrance Service

On Remembrance Sunday, 12th November, we would like to lay a wreath at the War Memorial in the village on behalf of Padbury CE School and would welcome pupils tojoin us at this event. They would need to meet us at the War Memorial at 10.45am. There will be a service at the church following the laying of wreaths, and the children and their parents would be most welcome to accompany us to the service.

If your child would like to volunteer to lay the wreath, then please let me know.

We are again selling poppies before school to support this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Rev. Ros would like to remind you that there will also be a remembrance service at Adstock. Please meet at 10.50 am at the War Memorial; the children will be asked to help place poppy crosses at the memorial.

Residential meeting for parents and children in Sycamore Class

On Friday 17th November at 8.45 am we would like to hold a meeting for the children in Sycamore Class and their parents, about the residential visit to the Allnatt Centre in April.

There will be further information to follow, but I would like you to put this date in your diary.

Celebration Assembly

Due to a series of events happening at school on Thursdays Celebration Assemblies for parents will recommence on Thursday 16th November. Please do make a note in your diaries.

Doors will open at 2.25pm for a 2.30 start. Please come to the Hall door by the drop off and collection area. Well behaved siblings are welcome. Could I request that if your pre-school child becomes restless that you remove them from the hall; they can become distracting to the pupils leading the Celebration Assembly?

PFA News

Now we're in November, we really are allowed to start talking Christmas... The children have a fabulous time in school at the end of term, whenthey're usually lucky enough to be visited by Father Christmas who brings class presents. There arealso two parties (Maple/Beech and Oak/Sycamore), each with their own entertainment; last year both had a zumba party. The PFA funds these festivities so we are immensely grateful for your support.

Christmas Gift Shop:The PFA's pop-up Christmas gift shop will be onWednesday 13 Decemberduring the school day. All presents are £3 including wrapping. The children love choosing presents for family independently and always really enjoy this event. Please seeflyers inbook bags and return your slip and payment to schoolby Thursday 7 Decemberif your child would like to participate.

Christmas Puddings running out fast!We have ordered fewer puddings than in previous years and we're already low onthe chocolate puddings - so please return your orders to school or to Alex () sooner rather than later to avoiddisappointment. We've sold over 200 bottles of apple juice so far; this will be on sale at parents' evenings, book fair and Christmas performances - or email Cassie () with your order.

Santa Claus is coming to town - volunteers needed! The Rotary club have invited us to accompany FatherChristmas's float around Padbury and Adstock on Wednesday 13th December. Last year, the door collections earned the PFA a very welcome £380 so it is very much worth our while. However, we can only do this if we have enough volunteers, ten for each village collection. We'll bewalking around Padbury from 5.30-7pm and Adstock 7-8pm; it's a fun evening, very festive, and we'll congregate in the Thatched Inn at the end of it. If you can help, please let Cassie or Vicky () know.

Coffee morning and Christmas Bazaar:Friday 8th December, 9-11.30am, Padbury Village Hall. A chance to have coffee, cake and a catch up after you've dropped the children off at school - and anopportunity to do someChristmas shopping too with local independent craft stalls. Run by the Preschool Committee and all proceeds to the PFA. Don't forget to put it in your diary!
