Pacing Guidance and Recommendations

Please understand that the suggestions made throughout the school year on pacing, are just that, suggestions in order to help get us through the major work so that our students have what they need in order to be successful. Your students should always be the driving force behind each lesson and only you know them, their strengths and challenges. As a reminder, here are some ways in which you can adjust your pacing…

§  Look at the assessments and student outcomes in the module overview, to see if there is room where lessons can be combined and go for it! It is better to plan by topic than one lesson at a time. This way you can see the major understandings that students need and use the resources in the lessons to support students acquiring this knowledge.

§  There are links to webinars placed in this pacing guide that illuminate the standards being taught, suggest quality instructional models, and display a few tasks that exemplify the standard(s).

There are also courses available for you to take to unpack CCLS and curriculum resources to aid your planning. Click HERE to see the schedule for these course offerings.

§  Don’t do EVERY fluency activity; maybe do the one that you feel will best meet the needs of your students. You can do some of the fluency activities as students line up to leave the classroom/ during transitions

§  Don’t do EVERY problem within the problem set. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO EVERY PROBLEM IN THE MID AND END OF MOD ASSESSMENTS

§  Do certain parts of the lesson whole group/ small group. Etc.

§  Use the exit tickets to assess student understanding

§  Considering integrating some lessons including the Measurement and Data standards into your science lessons where they align
