The Pacific ICT Ministerial Meeting on 19 June 2015 and the Pacific ICT Officials’ Meeting on 17-18 June 2015 are hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Information, Disaster Management, Energy, Climate Change and Communications, Tonga and facilitated by the University of the South Pacific (USP) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) which also act as Secretariats of the Meetings. The Meetings are supported by the Department of Communications (COMMS), Australian Government, and the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT).

1MEETING VENUE

The Pacific ICT Ministerial Meeting and the Pacific ICT Officials’ Meeting will be held at the Fa’onelua Convention Centre(FCC) in Nuku’alofa, Tonga.

2REGISTRATION

Registration for the Meetings must be done online at:

Last date of registration is 29thMay2015.

On-site registration and distribution of badges will commence from9.00am on Wednesday17thJune 2015. The registration desk at FCC will be located outside the conference room.Participants are required to bring their pre-registration confirmation to receive their badges.

3PARTICIPATION

Only those who have submitted online pre-registration and received their confirmation can attend the meetings. There is no registration fee.

5TRANSPORTATION FROM AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL:

Nuku’alofais located approximately 21 KMs (35 minute drive) from the Fua’amotuInternational Airport.

  • Some hotels in Tonga offer Airport pick up for their guests and can be arranged upon booking
  • Alternatively, a taxi service is available. The approximate taxi fare from the airport to Nuku’alofa is T$30 (USD15.00). It is recommended to confirm the price with the driver before departure.

Internet Access over a wireless network will be available during the meetings. Participants who wish to utilize the wireless facility are kindly requested to bring their own laptop computers with Wi-Fi capability. Access credentials will be provided at the meeting venue.

10PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Foreign Exchange Rate: The local currency is Tongan Pa’anga (TOP). International Banks operating in Nuku’alofa include ANZ and Westpac. The Exchange rate is approximately US$1.00=T$1.90. Major Credit Cards are accepted at most hotels and ATMs.

Departure Tax: There is no Departure Tax in Tonga.

Dress: Smart casual attire. Island Shirts are encouraged.

Weather: Tonga is approximately 20 degrees South latitude of the equator and has a cool and tropical climate. The average daytime temperature during the winter season (April - November) is 15-24 degrees Celsius. Summer clothing with a light jacket is recommended for during the day but it can get cold at night.

Local Time: UTC +13 hours

Electrical Current: Electricity voltage is 230/240 volts with pin configuration similar to Australia and New Zealand. You are advised to take along your universal adaptor if you are from any other country with dissimilar pin configuration and voltages.
