POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Director (US)

Department: World Renew

Status: Full-time, exempt

PURPOSE:

To provide overall direction and administration of World Renew to fulfill the mission assigned by the World Renew Board - US within its policies and the Synod of the Christian Reformed Church in North America as per its mandate for World Renew.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Executive Functions

  1. Enact the World Renew vision, and manage the long-range planning process in alignment with the World RenewArticles of Incorporation, Bylaws, Joint Ministry Agreement, policies, and strategic plan, as well as the CRCNA Denominational Ministries Plan.
  2. Be responsible for all outcomes and ends of World Renew-US, and co-responsible for same in World Renew bi-national.
  3. Maintain excellent relationships with World Renew-Canada.
  4. Build effective team systems in World Renew that assure appropriate spiritual, physical, and emotional support for staff. Plan for the effective and efficient accomplishment of World Renew outcomes and impacts with the respective team leadership within World Renew.
  5. In conjunction with the World Renew – Canada Director, maintain and increase linkages between World Renewand other organizations, ecumenical coalitions, alliances and networks in order to share information, learn from each other, and collaborate for the sake of efficiency and effectiveness.
  6. Serve as a member of the Ministry Leadership Council and represent World Renew on denominational or interagency committees as required.
  7. In conjunction with the World Renew – Canada Director, manage World Renew’srelationships with other CRC agencies and institutions.

Board Support Functions

  1. Ensure that the World Renew-US Board of Delegates, the World Renew-US Board of Directors, and the World Renew Joint Ministry Council receive appropriate information in a timely manner to enable them to perform their governance and promotion roles well.
  2. Maintain an exceptional Board-staff interface to accomplish the vision of World Renew.
  3. Ensure that all matters requiring Board of Directors approval are brought to the board.
  4. Ensure that Board directions and decisions are followed and acted upon.
  5. Supervise the budget presentation and financial reporting to the designated denominational offices and the Board of Directors.

Administrative Functions

  1. Ensure that appropriate systems are in place to support the teams and assist them in aligning their functions for the accomplishment of the long range plan.
  2. Ensure that appropriate systems are in place for financial planning, budgeting, monitoring and control of financial resources.
  3. Ensure that appropriate systems are in place for the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of staff.
  4. Ensure that personnel policies of World Renew are properly followed and aligned as expected with agreements with the CRCNA.
  5. Nurture the development of new leaders.
  6. Develop and support a healthy organizational culture.
  7. Promote a culture that is both Christian and professional

Constituency Relations Functions

  1. Increase the profile and reputation of World Renew.
  2. Promote World Renew interests in churches and the general constituency.
  3. Ensure strong financial growth for World Renew-US with an aggressive and innovative annual plan, and by encouraging professional staff members to develop strong donor relationships.
  4. Support the involvement of the World Renew Board in fund development

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Jointly with the World Renew-Canada Director supervise the leaders of the Ministry Teams (including Disaster Response) and the Functional Teams, the Human Resources Manager and Chief Financial Officer. Sole supervision of the Board and Strategic Relationships Specialist.

QUALIFICATIONS

  2. A strong commitment to building diversity both on the US Board of Delegates and in the staff make-up.
  3. A demonstrated commitment to working on systemic racism and injustice generally.
  4. Strong commitment to working collaboratively within a bi-national structure to ensure effective ministries domestically and internationally.
  5. Demonstrated capability to lead a team of professionals to function effectively within a mutually supportive environment.
  6. Solid knowledge of foreign and domestic programming.
  7. Visionary in the mission and programs of World Renew.
  8. Strong administrative, organizational and leadership skills.
  9. Good ability to communicate verbally and in writing, in English.
  10. Ability to speak publicly.
  11. Ability to listen, communicate, motivate, and direct when working with staff and boards.
  12. A working knowledge of the Christian Reformed Church.
  13. Membership in the Christian Reformed Church, or a willingness to become a member, with commitment to its Forms of Unity, the Church Order and the Scriptures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Master’s Degree with specialization in a discipline related to the ministries of World Renew expected.
  2. At least ten years of management experience that includes international development and/or disaster response experience. Experience in diaconal or other church work is a definite asset.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

Work in a normal office environment with private office; considerable travel between the Canada and US offices, considerable travel nationally and internationally. Travel time is estimated at 25 – 30%.
