P3 Learning Overview Term 4 2017-18

Welcome to Term 4, which is shaping up to being a busy term! This time of year we enjoy Sports Day, Masterclasses and Resilient Kids. More details to follow.

We have our class house points system and Golden Time on Friday’s to work towards. Star of the Week and Pupil of the Month are also celebrated. Our class Spotlight wall celebrates achievements both in and out of school. Lots to celebrate!

Our good behaviour plan and Class Charter are our agreed standards.

At Lochardil we place importance on developing global citizens through Learning for Sustainability. For this term we will be looking at the following development goals and rights

Global Goals:

Below are the key learning experiences that the class will be working on through a variety of activities designed to encourage your child to learn new knowledge, skills, values and attitudes. We have shared the 3 core learning areas and also our class theme to provide you with a general picture of what is happening during term 2 within our class. By the end of this term we would expect most children to have achieved the targets listed below, and for all children to have achieved and attained as the best they can.

Literacy (including reading, writing, talking and listening)
By the end of Term 4 most children will be able to:
  • Use capital letters and full stops appropriately.
  • Form and join letters neatly and correctly.
  • Create a character and put them into a story.
  • Write about personal experiences.
  • Read new texts using reading strategies to tackle vocabulary.
/ Numeracy and Mathematics
By the end of Term 4, most children will be able to:
  • Know ½ and ¼ of shapes and ½ of numbers.
  • Estimate and measure volume using litres and ½ litres.
  • Use the 4 main compass points to describe and follow routes/directions.
  • Draw and identify up to 2 lines of symmetry on a 2D shape or picture.
  • Complete a symmetrical picture with 1 line of symmetry.
  • Add and subtract using different strategies
  • Divide by 2, 5 and 10.

Health and Wellbeing
By the end of Term 4 , most children will be able to:
  • Say what makes a healthy lunchbox
  • Try out a variety of sports- gymnastics, tennis,football etc.
  • Use relaxation techniques like yoga and mindfulness
  • Use Resilient Kids strategies to deal with disagreements in friendships and with peers.
/ Interdisciplinary Studies-
By the end of Term 4, most children will be able to:
  • Describe what the senses are
and what it would it would be like
without them.
  • Make simple food chains
  • Know what foods make a
healthy diet
  • Explain the importance of
exercise.

This term our topic is Healthy Highlanders, with a focus on Health and Well-being and Science. If you are able to help out with this topic then please let us know. Also if you have any suitable resources we would love you to share these with us. We are hoping to run taster sessions for Tae Kwon Do, Yoga, tennis, and gymnastics.
