OVERALL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible forthe creation and implementation of educationand training materials that relate to standards, guidelines, and other products produced by the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Instutute (CLSI). Working with volunteers and content experts is key in this position, especially for creating technical content for specific online communities of interest. Alignment of educational offerings among the education team members, and focus on achieving annual departmental goals,is critically important to grow the use of the CLSI standards and companion products.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Create educationalcontentfor online Communities

  • Determinesthe audiencewithin the communities identified (i.e. Newborn Screening, Method Evaluation, POLs, Quality Mangement Systems,and Microbiology) that would benefitmost fromnew education and trainingof CLSI products and services.
  • Creates educational products and services that enhance the CLSI documents with a significant positive impact on learning and comprehension foridentified audiences. Ensures that CLSI’s reputation for excellence in education is maintained and enhanced.
  • Works with standards staff to help determine best end-products (i.e. case studies, articles, templates) to create.
  • Writes innovative pieces that can be published and made available electronically with input from content experts and volunteers.
  • Interviews content experts and from those interviews, creates interesting and/or compelling content for the communities, or for publication.
  • Works with marketing manger to implement contentfor use in the communites.
  • Regularly re-assessesexisting products, services, and programs,ensuring relevance and value of theeducation and training programs. Updates products and services in a timely manner based on feedback through end-user evaluations.
  • Develops policies and procedures relating to the implementation of education plans.
  • Works to advance the mission and vision of CLSI.
  • Performs duties which provide optimal learning experiencesfor end-users.

Continuing Education (CE) Units for products and services

  • Creates thecontent for educational products for which CE credit(s)are awarded.
  • Coordinates the development of questions to correspond with documents and other applicable items.
  • Works with IT department to place procedures/content and electronic retrieval of CE on CLSI’s website for any/all customers.

Webinars

  • Sets up the webinar in the appropriate application and has registration ready for those who want to attend.
  • Works with the presenters of the webinars to coordiate a date snd time of presentation and obtains the title, overview, and objectives. Then trains the presenters to use the webinar application/service correctly before the webinar occurs.
  • Creates reports that display who attended, what questions were asked, how they rated the webinar on the evaluation in addition to any othe rreportd needed/requested.
  • Provides follow-up to presenters and attendees with any/all materials and CE that is earned by each of these individuals.

Operational Effectiveness

  • Seeks continual improvement in the speed, efficiency, and effectiveness of the CLSI-managed education processes while minimizing the organization’s exposure to potential risks.
  • Responsible for effectively managing assigned projects within budget.

Customer Focus

  • Is responsive to volunteer/member/customer needs within the organization’s scope of and process for education.

Performs other duties as required by management.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to create technical education and training programs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members, customers, and volunteers

  • Use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • MLT or MLS certification anda minimum of two years experience working in a clinical laboratory.
  • Staff development/teaching experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel required (approximately 10-15%). International travel may be occasionally required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to readlaboratory related and general education realted materials.

MATHEMATICAL AND COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Financial acumen to monitor budgets.
  • Strong computer skills. Experience with Microsoft office suite of products strongly desired.

INTERNAL/EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to: Director, Education
  • Works effectively with the e-Learning Manager and Meetings Manager
  • Works with staff, volunteers, members, and customers
