2012-2013 Uniform Guidelines and Policy
It is the responsibility of all students to adhere to the OHHS dress code at all times and to show respect for the spirit and intent of the dress code. While on campus the dress code will be enforced.
Student Identification Badge / Oxon Hill High identification badge must be worn suspended from a break away chain around the neck facing forward on the students’ chest.
Shirts: / Shirts must be a plain 3 to 5 button black polo style, long or short sleeves are permitted.All shirts must havecollars. Tightly fitted or stretch shirts are not permitted. The undershirt should not be visible at the sleeves.
Slacks: / Slacks must be plain colorkhaki pants.Slacks must be worn on or above the hips (no low rise, low cut, tight fitting, sagging nor slacks made of stretch material).Noother styles are permitted.Slacks may not have a drawstring, elastic at the hem, cut/or holes in pants.
Belts: / A plain (without adornment) solid-colored black orbrown belt must be worn with any garment having belt loops. The belt buckle must be plain and will not exceed the width of the belt.
Skirts: / Khaki skirts must beworn at or near theknee or longer. Skirts may not have a drawstringor be spandex/shape fitting material. Jumpers are acceptable as long as the length is appropriate.
Shoes: / Shoes must be plain, solid-colored black or white in styles that have a closed toe and heel. Solid-colored, plain black or white athletic shoes may be worn.No flip flops, slippers, or crocs allowed. Heels shouldbe no higher than 2 ½ inches. Solid colored brown or black boots may be worn.
Jackets: / Jackets/coats may be worn to and from school only, NOT during the school day. Jackets/coats must be stored in lockers.
Sweaters/Vests: / Plain, solid black sweaters and vests may be worn as pullovers or cardigans
Blazers: / Black blazers may be worn.
Socks/Stockings/Hose: / Socks must be solid colors of white, khaki, or black. Stockings (hose or tights) may be worn in white, black or natural. No patterned or textured styles.
Other / Teams/organizations and club uniform and/or specialty grade-level shirts with khaki pants may only be worn on specified school approved days. Hats and/or head coverings may not be worn in the building, except for approved religious or health related reason(s) only.
UNIFORM VIOLATION CONSEQUENCES
First Offense: /
  • Student is referred to the student accountability center (SAC).
  • Student ‘s name is recorded in “Uniform Dress Code Violation Log”.
  • The following options are provided:(1) the proper uniform item is brought to the student or (2) parent/guardian takes student home to change into proper uniform.
If a parent/guardian is unable to comply with the above options, the student will be:
  • placed in thestudent accountability center for the remainder of the school day.

Second Offense: / Same consequence as 1st Offense.
If a parent/guardian is unable to comply with the above options, the student will be:
  • placed in the student accountability center for the remainder of the school day and
  • assigned AM or Saturday detention.

Third Offense: / Same consequence as 1st Offense.
If a parent/guardian is unable to comply with the above options, the student will be:
  • placed in the student accountability center for the remainder of the school day andassigned AM or Saturday detention. Administrator is notified to follow up with parent for administrative consequence(s).

Fourth Offense: / Same consequence as 1st Offense.
If a parent/guardian is unable to comply with the above options, the student will be:
  • placed in the student accountability center for the remainder of the school day andassigned AM or Saturday detention. Administrator is notified to follow up with parent for administrative consequence(s).
This offense and any subsequent will be deemed persistent disobedience and the administrator will determine the disciplinary action taken to include be not limited to the following:
-Short/Long-Term Suspension

THE ADMINISTRATION HAS DISCRETION IN MAKING JUDGMENTS RELATING TO THE APPROPRIATENESS OF DRESS, TO INCLUDE JEWELRY. THE APPEARANCE OF OUR STUDENT BODY REFLECTS UPON THE CLIMATE OF OUR SCHOOL. STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO ADHERE TO STANDARDS OF DRESS AND GROOMING THAT ARE ACCEPTABLE IN A POSITIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.

ID VIOLATION CONSEQUENCES

1st Offense / Student will be allowed to receive a new ID card by paying $5 or issuance of a debt obligation notice.
Student ‘s name will be logged in violation log. Parent will be notified of offense.
2nd Offense / Student will be allowed to receive a new ID card by paying $5. Student’s name will be logged in violation log. Parent will be notified of offense.
3rd Offense / Student will be allowed to receive a new ID card by paying $5. Student’s name will be logged in violation log. Parent will be notified of offense. Student is referred to the student accountability center (SAC). Administrator is notified to follow up with parent for administrative consequence(s).

Tardy Policy (School-Wide)
After 9:30 am, students will go to appropriate location and receive a time stamped yellow pass with appropriate SchoolMax Attendance Code.
Tardy Arrival to Class 1st- 4th Period / Consequences
Arrival without parent or verified note / unexcused tardy
Arrival with parent / excused tardy
1st Offense / Written warning letter for parent to sign
2nd Offense / Before or after school detention, packet behavioral assigned
3rd Offense / Saturday detention

*Color coded late bus passes will be provided to students. PA announcement will notify teachers of late arrivals and color. Student tardies must be logged in with reason, date and time.

Tardy Policy (Classroom)
Students must have coded time stamped yellow pass to enter 1st period after 9:30am. Students must sign in the teacher tardy log noting time and reason for tardiness. (5 minutes passing time from time on pass)
Students late to periods 2nd, 3rd, and 4th must sign in teacher log with date, with reason.
Tardy Arrival to Class 1st – 4th Period / Consequences
1st Offense / Student signs teacher log with date and reason. If unexcused the student receives a verbal warning.
2nd Offense / Student signs teacher log with date and reason. If tardy is unexcused, the teacher contacts parent and notes in SchoolMax. Student is not allowed to make up missed work.
3rd Offense / Student signs teacher log with date and reason. If tardy is unexcused, the teacher contacts parent, and notes in SchoolMax. The teacher refers student to counselor for interventions and notes in School Maxx. Parent-Teacher Conference is requested. Student is not allowed to make up missed work.
4th or more Offenses / Student signs teacher log with date and reason. If unexcused, the teacher completes SIT referral to SIT team and notes in SchoolMaxx. Student is not allowed to make up missed work.

*Student is tardy if bell rings and student is not physically inside the room (even if student places books in the class prior to late bell)

Hall Sweep Protocol and Policies
Purpose: To provide a consistent deterrent for students loitering in the halls and cutting class. The primary goal is to create a safe and orderly environment by ensuring all students are in class by the ringing of the late bell.
  • Sweeps will be unannounced and conducted randomly during class periods .
  • Students will be swept to a zone designated room for processing.
  • Students will receive hallsweep violation slips, detention slips and/or admin notification
  • A Google Docs database will be maintained to identify student violators.
  • Teachers will NOT ISSUE PASSESduring first last 15 minutes of each class.
  • No passes will be issued after 3:30 pm everyday.

StudentAccountabilityCenter
Purpose: To provide a resource where students receive consequences for infractions against the established school policies. The center allows for students to receive interventions and/or progressive discipline measures.
1st Offense / Student reports to SAC. A parent notification is made by SAC personnel.
2nd Offense / A parent notification is made by SAC personnel. The infraction is logged in Google Docs for staff review. Detention may be assigned
3rd Offense / Students will remain in SAC all day. Parent will be notified by SAC personnel. Infraction will be logged in Google Docs for Staff review. Saturday Detention may be assigned.
4th Offense / Repeat offenders (4 times or more) will receive an out-of-school suspension. The SAC staff will complete the paperwork for the appropriate administrator to sign. The administrator will contact the parent regarding the suspension and log it into SchoolMax.
