Outstanding issues – Kender Traffic Scheme (as identified at the Telegraph Hill Ward Assembly January 2102)

Issue / Comment / Responsibility
Lack of cycle lanes / TfL have said some of these issues will be resolved through the cycling highway scheme / TfL
Unprotected and narrow pavement on the south side of Queen’s Road between Erlanger and Pepys / High footfall in this area and the traffic is very close – potential for danger to pedestrians / TfL
Motorbikes not allowed in bus lanes / This is allowed in other areas of London – why not here? 3 accidents in part 3 months. / TfL
Consultation - residents on roads outside the triangle / Feel these roads were not consulted effectively and that there has been no effective study on the impact on these areas such as Pomeroy, Montpelier, Jernigham etc / TfL
Pedestrian crossings / General feeling that they are at the wrong point and encourage people not to use them when crossing the road / TfL
Bad drainage on Queen’s Road / Puddles accumulate quickly and can result in pedestrians getting wet when vehicles drive through them / TfL
Bad drainage at Pepys / New Cross Road / Creates a barrier for pedestrians and vehicles / TFL
Bus lane compresses traffic on the south side of Queen’s Road meaning it is closer to housing / Noise/pollution / TfL
Difficulties for emergency vehicles getting through Queen’s Road due to slow moving traffic / TfL
Inadequate/wrongly place short stay and delivery bays / More difficult for residents and local shops – deliveries refused by some companies and loss of trade / TfL
Residents parking / Spaces have been removed making it increasingly difficult for residents to park. Build out on Peyps Road has contributed to this problem as well. / TfL
No right turns / other traffic restrictions / Result in longer journey times for residents – difficult access – considerable detours to go east or north / TfL
Streetscape / Brochure pictures misleading – no greenery/planting. Loss of flower troughs and baskets. Refuges at main junction should have been designed with planters. / TfL
TfL land / What is TfL doing with the strip of land they own on the north side of Queen’s Road? / TfL
Signage / bollards / Not well designed or positioned – no integrated design / TfL
Wait at pedestrian crossings / Takes a long time for the green light to come on / TfL
Lack of link person during project / This meant residents/community groups/businesses weren’t kept up to date – possible lesson for the future / TfL
Contact information / Number given in communications is the main enquiry line, should be a direct number / TfL
Kender Street parking congestion / Too many cars parked on the street on both sides – reduces visibility and restricts access for emergency vehicles / LBL
Pollution monitoring / Currently not being done, residents’ concerned about the impact of slow moving traffic creating pollution / TfL
Short-term spaces at the end of Waller Road are under-used / TfL
Accident blackspot at crossing opposite New Cross Gate station / TfL
Open Kender Street for local traffic / TfL/LBL
Left hand turn onto Lausanne Road / Seems to be a divide with some people saying it should be enforced and some people saying it should be abolished. / TfL
