Enjoy Family Activities this Summer without Worrying about the Weather

Awnings work to extend the living space and add protection during outdoor activities

It’s no secret that parents and kids wait for summer to roll around, but rising temperatures and inclement weather often inhibit them from spending quality time outside. For this reason, bringing the comfort of the indoors to the outdoors is growing in popularity.

In fact, according to a recent article in From House to Home, nearly $75 million is spent on outdoor living projects every year. With this growing trend, homeowners are looking for ways to enjoy outside activities while avoiding excessive heat, sun exposure or inclement weather conditions. Whether temperatures soar or gentle rain rolls through, awnings extend the living space creating a comfortable outdoor living room for all occasions.

“The outdoor living trend encourages families to spend time together,” said Michelle Sahlin, managing director of the Professional Awning Manufacturers Association (PAMA). “Awnings provide an ambiance that encourages outside activities and provides added protection throughout the summer months.”

While most families would be inclined to have dinner together on the deck or patio, most would not realize the endless activities awnings can facilitate. Family fun time could include:

Beyond creating an ideal location for families to spend time together, awnings add aesthetic value and make the home more functional. With a variety of frames and fabrics to choose from, awnings can complement any type of architecture from traditional to modern-style homes. User-friendly retractable awnings maximize options, allowing the structure to be retracted manually or at the push of a button.

“Awnings are making a comeback.” Sahlin said. “Today’s fabric awnings are designed in many shapes, sizes, colors and patterns to fit individual preferences and senses of style.”
