OURMUSIC Conditions of Grant
This grant scheme has been set up by FRIENDS OF HIGHLAND MUSIC (FoHM) to assist young musicians and students in the study and performance of Scottish traditional music.
WHO MAY APPLY? Anyone 23 years of age and under, and resident in the Highland local government area.
WHAT IS IT FOR? Grants will be given towards meeting the cost of specific expenditure related to the advancement of the applicant’s knowledge, experience or career prospects in the field of Scottish traditional music. They may include fees for study courses, course materials and related travel and accommodation costs, purchase of study material and costs of producing recordings. They will not be given for the purchase of instruments or accessory equipment. They will not be given for expenditure already incurred prior to the grant decision. If you are applying to attend an event for which you have previously had funding, please explain how further attendance would benefit you.
HOW MUCH? The minimum grant is £100, the maximum £500. The amount awarded may be less than applied for. The grant is not a fixed percentage of the proposed costs.
HOW TO APPLY: Applicants must fully complete the application form and lodge it with the Secretary. If the applicant is under 16, his or her parent or guardian should also sign the form. The applicant should submit with the form evidence of the proposed expenditure and the names and addresses of 2 referees (not related to the applicant) who can speak to the applicant’s character and ability and the appropriateness to the applicant’s needs of the proposed expenditure. Only one application per person per year is permitted.
WHEN TO APPLY: Applications must be lodged (fully completed and with supporting evidence) at least two months before the funding is required.
DECISIONS: The award of grants is at the sole discretion of the FoHM Committee. They will intimate their decision in writing to the applicant within one month of the closing date for applications. As the grant fund for each calendar year is of a specific amount, the Committee may need to use its discretion in giving priorities or to close the scheme for the year if the fund is exhausted. The decision of the Committee is final, and it will not enter into any correspondence on the merits of an application. In the event of refusal, applicants may be invited to re-apply at a future date.
PAYMENT: FoHM will pay the grant on seeing evidence of commitment to the expenditure, and will if possible make payment direct to the suppliers. In the event of the project not proceeding or the costs being less than anticipated, the applicant will be bound to repay the grant or such amount as is appropriate and recoverable by the applicant.
REPORTING: Successful applicants will be asked to submit a report to the Secretary on completion of the project.
GIVING SOMETHING BACK: As FoHM organises events encouraging young people in traditional music, successful applicants who are performers will be asked to make themselves reasonably available to take part without fee in at least 2 such events in the year following the grant.
PUBLICITY: It will be at the discretion of the Committee to publish details of grants awarded.
