January 2013DeansfieldPrimary School

Our topics this term are:

Science: The first half term, Year 3 will be investigating and exploring materials as part of our Science topic. On 22nd January, we have a visit planned by the CREW Theatre Workshop to support the children’s Science topic work. The second half we will be investigating how to help plants to grow well.

______

Maths: We will be continuing to develop and extend number skills and explore shape, space and time. At home, please continue to learn the multiplication tables (read the time from analogue clocks and compare with digital times), whenever and wherever possible. It is imperative that the children learn their times tables this year if they are to make expected progress.

______

Literacy: As part of our Literacy Work we will be looking at the painting of ‘Perseus and the Medusa‘ and be focusing on our Storytelling skills. We will be visiting the National Gallery to see the Perseus paintings

(3L 15th January and 3S 25th January). We will also be visiting the RoyalNavalCollege on

11th February to take part in a Myths and Masks Workshop. During the second half term our focus will be ‘The Selfish Giant’. Visits to the local library would enhance our work in school.
