Dear Parents/Carers
Saatchi Gallery, London
Monday 4 July 2016
As you may remember from the Options Evening presentation, past GCSE Media Studies trips have been to BBC Broadcasting House, to look at the BBC as an institution. However, it is with regret that the BBC have ceased to offer this particular opportunity to the public.
Therefore, the Media Studies department are proposing a new excursion this year, to support and enrich the ‘Music Industry’ coursework unit, studied during the summer term in Year 10.
On Monday 4th July, a visit has been planned to the Saatchi Gallery in London to experience the interactive ‘Rolling Stones’ exhibition that is running there for a limited time. It has fantastic reviews and is boasting “Over 550 rare and original Rolling Stones objects star in a fully immersive, multi-media experience”. We are very excited to be leading the trip and think that our Media Studies students will learn a great deal about significant figures in the music industry. We will be departing promptly at 8:30am from the school and will return at approximately 6pm.
The cost of the trip will be £26. This includes travel to London and entry into the exhibition and gallery. Students are advised to bring a packed lunch as food and drink will be costly at the venue. As this trip is deemed to be an enhancement to the curriculum, the school normally is unable to offer financial assistance and therefore the full cost of the activity must be borne by yourselves. Payments and accompanying paperwork must be handed in on or before the deadline date outlined to avoid jeopardising your child’s place on the trip/activity. Should your child withdraw from the activity, please be aware if a deposit is required that this will be non-refundable and any further payments can only be refunded if the place can be filled by another student on a waiting list, or if the withdrawal is for an insurable reason. If there are significant changes to the cost of the trip, these may have to be passed on to the student. Be assured that we will try to keep such costs to a minimum.
We would advise that students do not to take valuables out on school activities, however, should they be taken parents should ensure personal possessions are adequately insured.
It is the parent’s/guardian’s responsibility to update the school should there be any changes to the medical information about their child. Please communicate these to Mrs Brettell, Business Support Manager.
Please complete and return the consent form and monies (cheques made payable to Oaklands Catholic School) to the Finance Office by Monday 2 May 2016. Alternatively you can pay online.
I am sure that students will find this a useful and enjoyable part of their studies in Media.
Yours sincerely
Jude Evans
(Media Studies Teacher)
