Heartland Head Start Open House Event! Join us for a fun day with food, games, prizes, and opportunity to enroll your family and your child in our Head Start Program. This event is for new families and families who have started the application process with us. Open House will be, Saturday, June 24th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at 1407 W. Washington St., Bloomington, IL. If interested in enrolling, you can speed up the process by bringing in the following items: proof of income, medical card, children physical, immunizations, and birth certificate.

The City of Bloomington will be accepting applications for its Homeowner Rehabilitation Loan Program and FY19 Partner Projects beginning Friday, July 3, 2017. Applications for the Homeowner Rehabilitation Loan Program will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. The City will utilize Community Development Block Grant funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist approximately 25 low and moderate income households with minor to moderate home repairs. Assistance is provided in the form of a 0% interest deferred loan payable at the time that the homeowner is no longer the owner/occupant of the property.

The Partner Program provides funding for community partners engaging in public service, housing, public facility and infrastructure projects. Accepted projects will be funded for the fiscal year beginning May 1, 2018. The City will host an informational meeting for interested Partner Program applicants on Wednesday, July 12 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Hepperly Conference Room, Government Center, 115 E. Washington St., 2nd Floor, Bloomington. The meeting will provide an overview of the Community Development Block Grant and eligible programs and services it can fund. Applications for both programs will be available on the City’s website and at the Community Development Department, Government Center, 115 E. Washington St., Bloomington, beginning June 15 and will be accepted July 3 through August 31.

Tales for Tails pairs trained and certified therapy dogs with children who want practice reading aloud. If your child is in grades K-5 and is interested in this program, come to the Children’s Desk between 10:30 and 11:30am the day of the program. Upon arrival, children will be assigned a 10-minute session with one of the dogs.

Play, Create & Listen Lapsit

Lapsit story time is geared for one-on-one play and group activities. We will PLAY using a variety of educational and manipulative items; LISTEN using a variety of songs, rhymes, and stories; and CREATE with blocks, art materials, and more. Bring a blanket and wear comfy clothing to this 6:30pm program in the Story Room. Parents should make other arrangements for older siblings.

Creating Soil: Meeting Amazing Composters with the Ecology Action Center

The Ecology Action Center will incorporate the design theme of our Summer Reading Programs by offering a look at the world of soil designers – decomposers! We will read the book, Compost Critters, and then discuss what happens when things get thrown away, both in the landfill and in nature. We’ll then meet some decomposers! There will be vermicomposting worms and a few other critters like giant millipedes. This 10am Community Room program will be fun for the whole family!

Teen Marvel Party

Celebrate all things Marvel with crafts, games, snacks, and prizes in preparation for the upcoming movie, Spiderman Homecoming! This party is open to those entering grades 6-12 and will take place from 6-8pm in the Community Room.

Monthly Donation Day

Library volunteers will gather donations of gently used books, audio books, DVDs, CDs, and BluRays on the second Saturday of each month from 10am-3pm. Those wishing to donate are asked to bring the materials to the Community Room or pull into the Library’s main parking lot, take an immediate left, and drive under the overhang. There, a group of volunteers will help unload the materials from the donor’s vehicle. Items will be sold with proceeds benefitting Library programs.

Singing, Swinging Story Time

This story time is perfect for the whole family. Children will enjoy an extravaganza of stories, fingerplays, laughs, and songs accompanied by a guitar at 11am in the Children’s Department! A parent or caregiver must accompany children.

The first step to healthier eating is buying healthy foods at the grocery store. Registered Dietitian, Jenna Smith, will take you down the aisles and show you how to shop smart. This month's feature will be from 6 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 27 with a focus on local foods. We will highlight various local offerings available as well as tell you everything you need to know to shop local. You'll also get to take home a reusable grocery bag full of goodies! Public Health Nurse

The following Full-time position is available at the McLean County Health Department located at 200 W. Front Street, Bloomington, Illinois. This announcement is for County employees and the general public.
This Full-time position has a 37.5 hour work week. This position is classified as a grade 9 with an annual hourly salary range beginning at $19.85 per hour.
The Public Health Nurse provides maternal, child, and other public health services, weekdays 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional evening and Saturday.
