Questions from parishioners for the priest: This weeks question: Can a priest say no to having a funeral service? Answer: A priest can say that he will not have a funeral service in certain circumstances. The major examples are if a person is not baptized, if a person knowingly opposed the teaching of Christ and the church such as a doctor is is prolife or a person who professes to be an atheist or if a person commits suicide.There are many different scenarios which also can be considered grounds for a priest not to have a funeral service. Additionally, if a person is baptized but not a practicing Catholic they are not usually entitled to a church funeral. The services can be performed at the funeral home and or cemetary. It is necessary to actively practice the Catholic. Being a Catholic means more than being baptized.The funeral service includes a parystas, and panachyda and may include a Divine Liturgy. The Divine Liturgy is not a requirement for a funeral service. The Divine Liturgy is considered part of the funeral service because practicing catholics are accustomed to attending the Liturgy and also offering Liturgies for deceased family and friends.

Confession is a very important Sacrament for our spiritual Life. For those who like to Receive Holy Eucharist on regular basis, remember that sin has to be confessed before receiving the body and blood of Christ. For example when you miss Sunday or Holy Day Liturgy, over couple of week, you cannot receive communion. However it is our personal responsibility to determine whether or not we receive Holy Communion. The priest also has a responsibility to ask if a person is worthy to receive Holy Communion. This would be done privately. It is also important that the priest is makes use that recipients of Holy Communion are catholic. I remember the words of St. Apostle Paul to 1 Corinthians charter 11.“The Lord meant that when you eat this bread, and drink from this cup, you tell about his death until he comes. But if you eat the bread and drink the wine in way in a way that isn’t worthy of the Lord, you sin against his body and blood. That’s why you must examine the way you eat and drink. Послання Св.Апостола Павла до Галатiв2: 16-20.
Браття, a коли ми дізнались, що людина не може бути виправдана ділами Закону, але тільки вірою в Христа Ісуса, то ми ввірували в Христа Ісуса, щоб нам виправдатися вірою в Христа, а не ділами Закону. Бо жадна людина ділами Закону не буде виправдана!
Коли ж, шукаючи виправдання в Христі, ми й самі показалися грішниками, то хіба Христос слуга гріху? Зовсім ні! Бо коли я будую знов те, що був зруйнував, то самого себе роблю злочинцем. Бо Законом я вмер для Закону, щоб жити для Бога. Я розп'ятий з Христом. І живу вже не я, а Христос проживає в мені. А що я живу в тілі тепер, живу вірою в Божого Сина, що мене полюбив, і видав за мене Самого Себе.
