Course Description:

This course provides a paradigm for thriving in an online higher-education environment. Topics covered include navigating the virtual campus; Bethel University’s policies and procedures; effective college-level writing; and utilizing personal strengths for maximum success.

Course Objectives:

  • Students will learn to navigate through “V-Camp,” Bethel University’s virtual campus.
  • Students will become familiar with the policies and procedures of Bethel University’s College of Professional Studies.
  • Students will learn the elements and requirements of APA (American Psychological Association) -style writing.
  • Students will learn to identify and avoid plagiarism, and understand Bethel’s policies for incidences of student plagiarism.
  • Students will become familiar with Bethel’s University’s distance library and the online resources available to them for undergraduate research.
  • Students willbecome familiar with Smarthinking.com, Bethel’s online tutoring service.
  • Students will learn to identify their fundamental strengths, and create a plan for developing these strengths.
  • Students will become familiar with the challenges and benefits of online learning.

Grading Policy:

Homework (Complete)500 points total

You can earn a maximum of 100 points for the successful and timely completion of each unit’s Completesection.

Participation (Discuss) 250 points total

Login and post responses to the topics on the Discussion Board each week. Check the boardat least twice a week and post at least TWOquality responses to other learners’ comments. It is possible to earn a maximum of 50 points per unit for active, critical participation.

Grade Breakdown:

A =675 – 750points

B =600 -674points

C =525 – 599points

D =450 – 524points

F =below 449points

Attendance Policy:

Completing homework assignments on a timely basis, as well as quality postings and frequency of participation, are essential components for successfully completing this course. Late submissions will not receive full credit.

Academic Integrity:

All submitted homework and Discussion Board postings are expected to be completed by the learner. All learners are expected to adhere to all rules associated with academic and personal integrity. Plagiarism in any form will result in failure.

Read, Attend, Complete& Discussrequirements should be completed in the week that they are assigned.

Discussion questions should contain a minimum100-word initial response. You should also reply with a minimum 50 – 100 word response to TWO other students in your cohort for each unit. Discussion postings are due by Wednesday at midnight.

Completeassignments are due by midnight on Sunday, and must meet or exceed the stated wordcount for that assignment. Assignments vary widely; however, narrative essays should be written in APA style, with in-text citations and a separate reference listing as needed.

Grading: Work will be graded, and comments will be posted, within one week of submission.
