Oral Presentation Guidelines

  • 20-30 minutes (5 min. each person), followed by questions from the class
  • make a handout that serves as outline of presentation for the class
  • turn in 1 essay in Spanish to the instructor that includes sections based on each individual’s part of the oral presentation; at least 300 words per person.
  • everyone must present something different, two or more people cannot present the same information
  • to avoid ‘reading’ the presentation, no notecards, etc. are allowed
  • if a group member misses class the day of his/her presentation, he/she will not be able to make up the presentation, and will receive a 0

The oral presentation and essay (300 words) are 15% of your total grade, and are broken down as follows:

Contenido (25)

  • You must speak for at least 5 minutes.
  • Was the information you presented interesting? Was it in your own words?
  • It is important that you demonstrate that you have done at least some amount of research. Also, your topic must be related somehow to the Hispanic world.

Gramática (25)

  • You will be graded on basic grammatical structures we have studied. You are not expected to know complex grammatical structures. However, avoid saying things in a complex way by working with what you do now how to say even if you have to keep it simple. You shouldn’t have to ask your teacher for help with how to say something during the presentation more than once.

Cohesión del grupo (25)

  • This is your ‘group’ grade. All members of your group will receive the same number of points under this category.
  • Your group should have an introduction and/or conclusion, and presentations should be related to one another in some way.
  • A visual aid of some kind is suggested, but not required. This could be a poster, an overhead, or a powerpoint presentation (any audiovisual needs like a computer and projector must be decided a week in advance so materials can be reserved). You may not read off of a powerpoint, however.A handoutis required.

Fluidez (15)

  • You will be graded on the fluidity of your presentation. Did you stop and lose yourself? Did you have to ask the teacher more than a few times for how to say something?
  • Most importantly, no English! Ask your teacher ahead of time if you don’t know how to say something.
  • No reading. If your teacher allows you to have notes or notecards, you will lose points if you are just reading entire blocks of information off of a card.

Pronunciación (10)

  • This category is self-explanatory. You will be graded on pronunciation you should know, but obviously you are not expected to know how to pronounce complex terms you have never heard before.
