OPPORTUNITY FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE

A few months ago local farmers in the Imperial Valley partnered with Audubon California to start a local Landowner Stewardship Program. The purpose of this program is to increase the amount of food and habitat for the large number of birds that migrate through our valley every year. Coordinator Al Kalin is seeking 4-Hers who may want to participate in some of the Wildlife Conservation activities. These activities will include:

·  Building and installing burrowing owl boxes

·  Building and installing barn owl boxes

·  Working in nursery green house growing shrubs and trees

·  Greenhouse propagation and transplanting salt grass

·  Tree and shrub planting

·  Irrigating shrubs and trees

·  Installing irrigation systems

·  Soil reclamation

·  Trash removal

·  Evasive weed removal

This would be a great community service project for a club or for individual members in the Wildlife project. Mr. Kalin should be contacted directly at 455-1399 or

If you would like to be a part of the planning and/or delivery of the camping program, please contact the 4-H office.

Four-H staff and leaders are anxious to rekindle a county camping tradition. A successful camping program has many leadership benefits for the youth staff, in addition to building a camaraderie among participants that is often lifelong. Let 4-H staff know what you think, even if you can’t attend this year.

In order to keep the overall cost of camp down, participants will be asked to bring various food items, such as snacks, bottled water, cookies, etc. Requests will be made once registration closes.
