Mail it to Tom LaBuff at: 1255 Holy Cross Drive, Monroeville, PA 15146.

LOCATION: Boyce Park. Barring unforeseen circumstances, we will be using the same course as the last 6 years, the one that starts at the base of Agony Hill adjacent to Patrol pavilion. The high school course is a 5K (3.1 miles) and the middle school course will be 1.6 miles. The courses are almost exclusively on grass.

DIVISIONS & TIME SCHEDULE: Walk the course (guides provided upon request)... 7:30 A.M

9:00 AM Varsity Girls (7 runners) 10:00 AM JV BOYS (Unlimited runners) 11:00 AM Middle School boys

9:30 AM Varsity Boys (7 runners) 10:30 AM JV GIRLS (Unlimited runners) 11:20 AM Middle School girls

AWARDS: Two team trophies in each varsity race and one in each middle school race. Medals to the top twenty in varsity races. Ribbons to the top 20 JV’s. Medals to the top ten and ribbons to places 10-20 in the middle school races.

COACHES MEETING: Coaches and theirteams should check in by 7:30 A.M. so that they can walk the course and warm up properly. There will be a coaches meeting at 8:30 A.M. (There will be another meeting immediately after the start of the boys JV race for middle school coaches who arrive too late for the 8:30 meeting.) It is important that you be there to get any last minute information. Coaches should give me email addresses or fill out self-addressed envelopes for results. Starting times will be delayed only for emergencies. As in the past, I would appreciate a couple of volunteers for each race to help in the finish chute. I prefer not to use students.

SCORING: Runners will not wear tags. As they exit the finish chute, each runner will be handed a finish card or stick marked with their finishing position. Their coach will collect these, record the names and finishing positions of each team member on the outside of a manila envelope provided, place the cards/sticks in the envelope, and turn them in at a specified location for tabulation and verification. Since the runners will not be wearing identifying tags, any cutting of the course by an individual (reported by one of our monitors) will result in the disqualification of the entire team unless the guilty party can be clearly identified.

We are guests of Boyce Park, and management has, as usual, gone out of its way to accommodate us! We have been running here for 40 years and we would like to remain on good terms.

*Please make sure your runners use the restrooms or Port-o-Johns (not a tree) and that you keep your team areas clean. Though last year was great, there have been several years where we have had to

do a great deal of trash pick- up for a number of teams!

*TELL YOUR TEAMS TO STAY OUT OF THE OTHER PAVILIONS! These pavilions have been

reserved by other parties! Even if they are unoccupied, renters will arrive later!

REFRESHMENTSand T-SHIRTS: Our parents will have food, drink, & T-shirts available at the meet.

PARKING: COACHES – PLEASE INFORM YOUR DRIVERS! BUSES MUST DROP OFF TEAMS NEAR PATROL PAVILION, THEN PARK IN THE PARKING LOTS. BUSES MUST NOT PARK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! Spectators also must park in designated areas. Fans MUST NOT park on the grass! The County police have warned us that they will "tag" those who do. Please warn your parents!

DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

FROM PITTSBURGH: Take the Parkway to the PLUM exit. Follow that road (Route 48) north through one traffic light and through one four-way stop. At the next intersection, turn right and merge onto Center Road. Approximately one and one-half miles later, turn right into Boyce Park. The entrance is clearly marked. Turn right onto the park road and follow it a little over a quarter mile to the start of the course, which is beside Patrol Pavilion on the left.

FROM THE TURNPIKE EXIT AT MONROEVILLE: After coming through the toll booths, exit to the LEFT and continue to bear left to Monroeville. As you come off the exit you will merge onto Business 22. At the first traffic light (about 200 yards), turn right onto Route 43 North. Then follow the directions as given above (“From Pittsburgh”) from Route 48.

FROM THE EAST: Follow Business Route 22 into Monroeville. DO NOT GET ONTO THE PARKWAY! Turn right at the first traffic light (Route 48 North). Then follow the directions as given above (“From Pittsuburgh”) from Route 48.

FROM 380 & 286: Follow Route 286 to the light at Old Frankstown Road. Turn Right. Follow Old Frankstown for a little over a mile to the “Y”; bear right. This is now Pierson Run Road. Follow that approximately one mile to the rear entrance to Boyce Park. Turn left into the park. Turn right on the park road and follow it ¾ mile up and down a hill to Patrol Pavilion on the left.

GATEWAY INVITATIONAL: 2013MEET DAY INFORMATION

COACHES’ MEETING: 8:30 A.M. (MS meeting at 10:00) It is important that you be there! Note: Envelopes for results should be turned in at this time. Envelopes are provided in your packet. In the JV & middle school races, runners beyond number 8 will be placed by the starter.

Runners must be at the starting line 10 minutes before the scheduled starting time!Tell your runners NOT to wait until the previous race is completed! We will not hold the start for anything except injured runners on the course. We will not hold the start for runners who take more than 30 minutes to complete 3.1 miles, but we will keep a watch running to record their finish.

COURSE: Runners are instructed to follow the course line, marker arrows, marker flags and cones throughout the course. The high school course is an out-and-back course with a mile loop in the middle section. On the high school course, the last mile is the exact reverse of the first mile except for the finish.

The first mile of the middle school course is the same as that of the high school course. At that point, middle school runners will continue up the hill. This break will be clearly marked (MS) BUT both high school and middle school runners should take note while walking the course so that any there is no confusion during the races.

General Instructions regarding the course & course markings:

1) Run between any PAIRS of cones or flags; but if the line directs you between a single cone or flag &

the road, stay between the marker and the road!

2) Arrows on trees are slanted to indicate to which side of the tree the course is directed.

3) Any trees marked with arrows which are not slanted are simply directional guides. Runners may run

on either side of those markers.

4) Just past the mile mark (going down the hill) & in the same area coming back after the two mile marker, runners should stay on the grass beside the road

RACE SCHEDULE:

Girls Varsity: 9:00 AM--Boys Varsity: 9:30– Boys JV: 10:00 --Girls JV: 10:30--Boys MS: 11:00– Girls MS 11:20

RACE MANAGEMENT & SCORING: Runners will not wear tags. Each runner will be handed a finish card as he/she exits the finish chute. All runners are to immediately take their cards to their coach who will in turn record the names and finishing positions of each of his team members on the score sheet provided. (In the JV& MS races, record additional names on the back if necessary.) COACHES SHOULD PRINT NEATLY! The coach must then place the score sheet AND the numbered cards into the appropriate scoring envelope provided and turn these in IMMEDIATELY to the scorer’s table for tabulation. Results will be posted ASAP. Coaches! DO NOT DELAY IN TURNING IN YOUR RESULTS!
