Build teacher capacity to plan differentiated guided reading instruction through:
Formative assessment based on CCSS based leveled questions
•Data driven student conferences based on miscue analysis and student observation / Build teacher capacity to:
•Engage students in productive struggle through the use of rigorous problems and tasks (pose a problem, conceptual task, TASK TYPE and/or authentic activities within each lesson)
•Communicate Mathematical ideas by promoting constructive discourse through the use of: 1. Talk moves, 2. The 5 Practices, 3. Mathematical journal writes 2-3 times a week (to include Task Type questions)
•Embed the SMPs (Standards of Mathematical Practices) within math lessons through explicit instruction/ discussion / Refine writing instruction (K-5) to increase students’ mastery and application of the writing process through:
  • Opportunities to write to source across all content areas.
/ Increase student understanding and coping skills regarding bullying, relational aggression, emotional regulation and harassment through consistent and systematic use of:
•Morning Meetings- to include explicit Lessons on emotional regulation, empathy, self-control, diversity and grit.
•Class Dojo
•School Wide Assemblies
•Implement school wide cool down corners in the classroom and Zen Den for emotional recovery.

Odenton Elementary Pre-Kindergarten Registration is right around the corner!

We are excited to welcome our early learners to Pre-Kindergarten.

Registration starts February 7, 2018 from 10 am to 3 p.m.

Children must be four years old by September 1, 2018 to apply for the 2018-2019 school year. Registration is on a first come first serve basis according to the appropriate category (Category 1-Homeless, income based, Category 2-English Language learner or IEP or Category 3-all other students).

You will need to bring the following documents with you when you apply:

•Documentation of income eligibility for Category 1 applicants only:

*recent Federal Income Tax Return [1040]

*a current Food Stamp Award letter

*a Current Temporary Cash Assistance award letter

*proof of Foster Care income

*Note: Homeless students have the right to enroll immediately

•Your child’s birth certificate

•A copy of your child’s immunization record

*Check immunization requirements at http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/

•Two proofs of residency in Anne Arundel County

*Lease/mortgage document and a current telephone bill, utility bill or income tax

*A Tenant Verification form must be notarized when completed if applicable.

Registration is on a first come first serve basis according to the appropriate category.

Feb 26-Meet and Greet for Mentors with selected 5th graders!

Feb TBD- Prevention and Dinner. Learn about how to talk to your children in an age appropriate way about drugs.

March 22nd- Girls Night for 3rd-5th grade girls! Girls and women come together to learn about our bodies, puberty and products in fun supportive way.

April 6th- Career Day! Be on the look-out for the career day flier and sign up to be a presenter! This year the members from the Army Field Band are coming to present our Career Day Kick Off!

Also, thank you to all the individuals and families who donated gifts for gift grab or sponsored families for the holidays.

Surveys to students regarding bullying are being given in computer lab to grades 3-5 this month again. The data will be shared with teachers so we may address issues, teach preventative measures and discuss anti-bullying tactics in morning meetings. We will be taking the county cultural survey in February.

This month we are talking about kindness and embracing diversity. Next month we will be doing some personal safety lessons about drug awareness and mindfulness lessons.
