Opportunities in Environmental Science and Entrepreneurship

Graduate Student Funding Available, MS level, starting Fall 2004. Combined interests in Environmental Science and Entrepreneurship

CaliforniaStateUniversity, Fresno jointly with San JoseStateUniversity, and the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories is seeking Hispanic, African-American, Native-American and Pacific Islander graduate students interested in pursuing MS degrees in Marine Science/ Environmental Science and Environmental Entrepreneurship. Students will participate as paid graduate assistants in a NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Association) funded environmental entrepreneurship program (EEP).

The focus of the EEP is to (1) provide training and research opportunities in the techniques and methodologies needed to characterize deep-water marine benthic habitats. This information is critically needed for the management of fisheries and to address environmental impacts to the seafloor; and (2) to provide entrepreneurship training to develop the necessary business and entrepreneurial skills, knowledge, and practical experience to create and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage as entrepreneurs subsequent to graduation.

Graduate assistantships will provide stipends of up to $15,000, and cover the cost of travel and equipment. Tuition waivers and financial aid may also be available.

Ideals candidate will have:

1. A completed or nearly completed BS degree in Biology, Geology, Environmental Science or related field at the time of application. A minimum GPA of 2.75 is required.

2. A strong interest in obtaining a graduate degree through coursework and

research in Marine/ Environmental Science and Entrepreneurship.

3. A record of past achievement that suggests a high likelihood of

successfully completing graduate work.
