Volley Tennis

Court: a regulation tennis court.

Official Team: consists of 6 players.

(LF)Left Forward(CF)Center Forward(RF)Right Forward

(LB)Left Back(CB)Center Back(RB)Right Back

Rally Scoring: is used in volley tennis. When a team breaks the rules (messes up), the other team scores a point.

Side out is called when the serving team fails to serve the ball over the net or fails to return the ball legally. The opposing team gains the serve and the point.

The winning team is the team scoring 15 points first and at least 2 points ahead of the opposing team.

Rotation: does not occur until the first server from both teams has completed her term (time) of service.

Rotation occurs after a side out has been called. All players on the team about to serve should shift one position clockwise.

Each player must serve when rotated to the right back position.

Playing the ball/The Game:

The volleyball MAY be contacted a total of 3 times by a team before it is sent over the net, and it may bounce one time between each hit. The 3 hits you should use are

1.)Bump, 2.) Set and 3) Spike.

-The ball may be hit with the hands or the forearms. Use ONE open hand on the spike, and two open hands for the set. If it hits any other part of the body it is an illegal hit.

-Only the forwards may spike the ball.

-A player may NOT hit the ball in succession (one immediately after the other—consecutively).

-Holding, pushing, lifting, catching or throwing the ball is illegal.

-Only underhand serves are allowed. The server may drop the ball to the ground and let it bounce one time before hitting it, or she may hit it directly from her hand.

-The serving team’s score is said first, then the receiving team’s score.

-The team receiving the serve MUST let the ball bounce once before the first hit is made. After that first hit, it is your choice whether the ball bounces once between the other hits.

-If the ball hits the net on the serve, it is illegal. It is side out whether it goes over the net or not.

-If the ball hits the net and goes over when it is NOT the serve, it is good and you should play on it.

-If the ball lands on the boundary line, it is considered “in play” and should be played on.

-It is illegal for the ball to bounce over the net. It MUST be hit over the net.

-A player should leave the court to play a ball that has been hit out-of-bounds by her team.
