OPERATING PROPOSAL – FIXED LOCATION TRADING BOAT

Please try to fill out this form as fully as possible, but do ask your Business Boating Manager for assistance if required. We will use the information provided to assess your proposals for navigational safety, water quality and other likely impacts on the waterway.

Upon receipt of your proposal, we will write and confirm receipt and give you an in principle decision within 6 weeks. Please note that if you may need to obtain agreements for using our property this may take much longer to finalise.

Details of your proposed operation
What are you going to trade in? (e.g. painted canal ware, sale of coal and gas, sale of sweets and drinks).
Do you intend to sell food or drink? (You may need to obtain a food hygiene certificate and an alcohol licence if necessary).
Please give as much detail as possible.
(This will allow us to fully review your proposals. If we need to contact you for additional information this may delay our response).
You will need a permanent mooring, where will the boats be moored? (site name and waterway).
Please confirm if this is a new or existing mooring site:
  1. If this is a new mooring location, we will need to assess this as part of your Operating Proposal.
For the assessment of new mooring location there is a non-refundable fee of £90 inclusive of VAT (at standard rate) towards our administration and initial assessment costs. Details on how to make payment are outlined on the bottom of this form.
If this is an existing mooring location, have you received permission from the mooring owner/operator for your proposed operation? (Written evidence of this permission will be required.)
Please include photos and also a red line plan highlighting the exact mooring location & berth. Please tick to confirm the supporting information is attached. (we are unable to review your application without this information). /
Have you contacted your Local Planning Authority about planning permission to trade from this mooring?
What are your intended opening hours? (Days of the week and hours each day)
What services will you need to have on your mooring to make this business work? (e.g. installation of mooring rings, mains water, electricity).
How will you get deliveries of stock to the boat?
How will you dispose of any commercial waste generated by your business?
Please detail how and where you wish to load fuel or hazardous materials, empty sewage tanks or pump-out to mobile tankers (this includes waste water that may include chemicals i.e. hairdressers).
Will customers be allowed to board your boat to view and/or buy goods or services? (If so, you will need a non-private BSS certificate)
Please tell us if you intend to sell any food or drink or offer entertainment

When your operation has been approved, you will need to submit:

  • Insurance: We do not require a copy of your current commercial insurance certificate, however we may carry out random checks on declarations. The policy must include all aspects
  • BSS Certificate (Non-private if customers allowed on board)
  • Evidence of mooring provider’s permission
  • Evidence of planning consent
