Contribution to Fair Trade in Yorkshire Award 2013

Introduction

The sponsors of the ‘Contribution to Fair Trade in Yorkshire Award 2012’ are the Centre for Global Education York, York Fair Trade Forum and York St John University. The Awards highlight good ideas and practice, recognition for hard work, andcelebrating Fair Trade action in this region.Local action can make a big difference to Fair Trade globally, and we hopethe ‘Contribution to Fair Trade in Yorkshire Award 2013’ will inspire your school and others to do your bit. The ‘Contribution to Fair Trade in Yorkshire Award 2013’ is open to all schools in Yorkshire. All entries will receive recognition andpublicity.

Winners will be announced at the Yorkshire School Fair Trade Conference in January 2013. Schools will be showcased at the Conference to celebrate what schools are doing in Fair Trade.

In this booklet, you will find lots of information about the award, includinginstructions about how to enter, and suggestions about what to put in yourentry form.

An administration fee of £15 is payable to ‘Centre for Global Education York’ with all entries and those schools who attend the conference.

Questions and Answers

The ‘Contribution toFair Trade in Yorkshire Award 2013’ is an annual awardwhich publicises and rewards good Fair Trade activitieshowever big or small organized by schools in Yorkshire. The award is a celebration of a school’saction for Fair Trade.

The Awards are organised and run by Centre for Global Education York together with the York Fair Trade Forum.

Fair Trade activities link well with many elements of the NationalCurriculum including Geography, Citizenship, Enterprise, Global Education and many more.

You will gain recognition for the work you and your pupils have done.

You will gain positive publicity for your school.

You will be able to share ideas about your Fair Trade activities with other schools.

You and some of your students will be able to attend the Yorkshire School’s Fair Trade School Conference in January 2013

How does my school enter?

To enter, you need to fill in the attached entry form. This requires you togive examples of the Fair Trade work your school has been involved in. To ensure the award has value those schools submitting a new application for 2013 entry, must evidence development or further embedding within their Fair Trade work.

All entries will be viewed by a panel of judges who may wish to speak tosomeone in your school about your Fair Trade activities.

Can extra-curricular activities be included in the entry?

Yes. All activities with a Fair Trade theme can be included, whetherthey are in lessons or part of extra-curricular work. Both one-off projectsand ongoing activities can be entered.

Entry Suggestions

General tips

We want to see that as many members of the school as possible have been involved in your Fair Trade work/ activities. For each of the categories, you should say how many students have been involved and in what way. For example, how have their ideas been used?

You should include one or more photographs to illustrate your entry. You can also include supporting information, and examples of students' work.

For each of the entry categories, there are some examples of suitable evidence in each section on the application form. Please note that you don't have to have done these precise activities. They are just suggestions. We strongly encourage all schools to enter no matter how small your contribution has been within the area of Fair Trade.

Entry Requirements

The closing date for entries is the 11th January 2013.

The school must be in Yorkshire.

All activities undertaken by the school, which have a positive impact and raised awareness of Fair Trade and Fair Trade issues, may be included on the entry form.

The activities included should have taken place during the past two years.

One or more photographs(which can be used for publicity) should be included with the entry.

Further Information

All schools that enter the ‘Contribution toFair Trade in Yorkshire Award 2013’

will be invited to send representatives to our Yorkshire Fair Trade Conference in January 2013,when the award ceremony will be held
