Ontario’s cap and trade program requirements: training sessions for industry

The Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change is offering training sessions to help industry (businesses/organizations) learn about their requirements and key deadlines to register in CITSS under the Ontario cap and trade program, which takes effect July 1, 2016.

The training will be offered in three modules beginning in July, 2016. Each business or organization should have at least two staff (maximum four) attend.

It is important to plan to attend one date for each of the three different training modules offered to learn about all aspects of registration on the Compliance Instruments Tracking System Service (CITSS) including:

  • user registration
  • account application
  • requirements to disclose corporate association information.

Details of the training sessions are below. Choose one date for each module.

User Registration / Compliance Instruments Tracking System Service (CITSS)
Recognition as an Account Agent (Step 1 of opening a CITSS account)
  • Training on how to complete the recognition as an account agent process including: entering information in CITSS, completing appropriate forms and providing required supporting documentation.
  • The session will also cover how to navigate CITSS and complete updates once you have been approved as an account agent.

Module #2
Account Application / CITSS Participant Registration (Step 2 of opening a CITSS account)
  • Training on how to complete the participant registration process including: entering information in CITSS, completing appropriate forms and providing required supporting information.
  • The session will also cover how to update your entity’s information and manage your facilities after you have been approved.

Module #3
Corporate Associations / Business Disclosures
  • Training on how to disclose your business relationships with other entities (e.g. inter-company ownerships and related board directors). This is a required part of the Participant Registration step and an ongoing requirement for updates.
  • The session will explain what a business relationship is and detail how to complete the form to disclose this information.

How to Register for Training Modules

Space is limited. Please register by Thursday June 30, 2016 to secure your attendance in these sessions. After June 30, these sessions will be opened up to additional stakeholders.

For those who register by June 30, the ministry will send a follow up email with the webinar links and additional details during the week of July 4, 2016.
