To obtain the Certificate of Residency and to apply for tax exemption, please contact the tax authority in the relevant country (i.e., IRS for U.S. citizens, ATO for Australian citizens). Not all countries allow for tax exemption while earning income overseas (i.e. Canada). The option to be tax exempt in one’s own country if working in Korea is offered only once to individuals; if an individual has prior work experience in Korea and wishes to participate in our program, he/she is no longer tax exempt from his/her respective country.

All TaLK Scholars are subject to paying Korean taxes and should be aware of his/her respective country’s tax report deadlines even if he/she is tax exempt. The Certificate of Residency does not exempt one from pension contributions.
