One Amazing Night
-Bethlehem: Who would have ever thought of Bethlehem. A small, obscure, insignificant dot on the map.
Joseph: Would you have chosen a simple carpenter to teach the only Son of God through His young, formative years?
Mary: simple and pure. Devoted child of God. Committed bride-to-be. By earthly standards, nobody special.
God: Holy. Perfect. All-Powerful Creator of the universe and beyond. Why would the King of kings, the Lord of lords choose to become one of us?
"You shall call His Name Emmanuel... God with us." We could never find the ability to be with God, so He chose to come and be with us instead.
That must have been one amazing night. No room in the Inn. Mary is about to deliver a baby that, by worldly knowledge was illegitimate. But, on the contrary, this child's Father was God Himself. Miracle of miracles, the virgin birth. For those who cannot get their minds around the virgin birth, how could you possibly believe any other part of the Bible? God is the God of the impossible. God accomplished the impossible when Jesus was conceived. God completed the impossible through His only Son.
That must have been one amazing night. He was born King of kings, and yet born in the lowest of places: among the animals. He was born the King of kings, and yet greeted by the lowest of people: shepherds. Would not a king deserve to be visited by other heads of state and influential people? Of course... and He was. Angels lit up the sky with the swells of "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men." Wise men traveled from long distances to see the child-king. And the most phenomenal part of this story: He came for me. He came for you. He came to live a perfect life, die a perfect death and arise in a perfect resurrection so that He can complete His perfect will in us.
Do you know Him? I mean, do you know Him personally? You can. His desire is that you repent of your sins and turn to Him, trusting in Him (Jesus Christ) alone for salvation. What better time to think about how good God is than now.
That must have been one amazing night.
