Things to do with Schoology!

There are lots of things we will use Schoology for. Here’s a breakdown of what you can do:

On the left-hand side of the screen, there is a list of things to choose from:

Materials: There’s a huge menu on your screen that comes up when you click on this. Things on the “Materials” page:

·  Class Documents – this section has all of the same things you can usually find on my website for your notebook. Syllabus is there too!

·  Remind101 – The info on how to sign up for that is here.

·  Mr. P’s Mythopedia – You can link to the mythology website that we’ll be using for class, explore the site and even visit, like and follow the Facebook site for it (at home, as FB is blocked here!).

·  Holt Online Textbook – the link for the Holt online textbook (instead of lugging your 20 pound book home!).

·  Chapter Resources - Extra copies of class notes, project sheets, maps, all that good stuff. Its set up by Chapter!

·  Extra Credit – extra credit will be found in this folder later in the year!

·  Mr. P’s Online Reading Library – lots of PDF books and files you can read on your Kindle or other electronic reader here!

·  Videos – I upload lots of videos that go along with what we’re talking about in class! This is where you can find them!

·  Mr. P’s Links – Links to other websites we may use this year.

·  Other folders we will use as the year goes on.

Updates: Updates works like a Facebook wall. I can leave you messages there, upload pictures, videos and even music. As a student, you can post things about the class, history articles, info on your hobbies, sports or interests, ask questions, post school appropriate pictures, etc.

How to set up your profile: if you go up to the top right-hand corner of your screen, you’ll see your name. Click on it. Your profile will come up. On your profile screen, there is a button that says “edit.” You can change your profile pic and add your personal info. NOTE: DO NOT add your phone number, address or email address! You can also set up your preferences here: getting emails, reminders, etc.

How to answer Discussion Posts: every now and again, I will post a discussion post for you to answer for homework. To get to the discussion post, look at the right hand side of your screen where it says UPCOMING. Your posts will always be there, along with a due date/ You can click on this and it will take you right to the post! Once you get there, read the instructions, write your post and then click “Post.” Done!

Online Quizzes: Online quizzes work the same way. Look at the right hand side of your screen where it says UPCOMING, and you will see each quiz there. Click on it, follow instructions and take the quiz!

Badges: For certain assignments, if you’ve done a particularly good job and have taken time to produce an awesome post/done well on a quiz, you may get a “badge,” which is kind of like a “collectible” online pin! How many can you collect this year?

Schoology App: there is a free Schoology app you can download to do your assignments from your phone! Just look it up as you would any app, download and install.

OK! Those are the basics. It will take some time to get used to, but since we’ll be using it often, you’ll get to know Schoology pretty well. As always, if you have problems, questions or issues, see me!

Today’s assignment:

1.  Go to updates and answer the first post. Read my message, click “comment” and type in an answer. Then click “post!”

2.  Go to “Upcoming” on the right hand side of the screen, find the “What is History” discussion question and click on it. Read the instructions, write your response in the comment box, and when done, click “post!”

3.  Explore Schoology, change your profile picture and set up your profile!
