I am writing to notify you that the Eta Nu Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. will conduct its Annual Talent Hunt Competition on May 21, 2017. The competition will be held at the E. Pat Larkins Center, located at 520 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Pompano Beach. Participants must complete and return the attached application no later than May 10, 2017.

Founded in 1911, the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. has as its cardinal principles, Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift. Our organization has created a number of programs and projects centered on these virtues. With over 900 chapters worldwide, the fraternity conducts a number of internationally mandated programs and the Talent Hunt Competition is just one of the many such programs.

Eta Nu is happy to sponsor this Talent Hunt Competition for the students in our community. Not only is this program a wonderful opportunity for young, talented students to compete and to display their skills in the performing arts, it also provides a superb setting for exposure, encouragement, and possible financial assistance. Local winners of this competition are awarded recognition for their talents and compete on a regional level.

SUBJECT: Who May Enter

Participation is solicited in the following areas:

·  Music: Vocal, Instrumental, Piano Solo (classical, semi-classical, gospel, jazz, R&B)

·  Dance: Interpretive movement to music (ballet, modern dance, tap).

·  Drama/Speech: Poetry, readings, orations, monologues. (Script must be provided for the judges prior to performance.)

Basic rules for participation:

·  Contestant must be a high school student (grades 9 – 12) at the time of the competition.

·  All presentation should reflect good taste.

·  No performance should exceed five minutes.

·  Pre-recorded accompaniment may be used for musical presentations/

·  Three copies of all musical instrument compositions to be performed must be provided to the Talent Hunt Chair by the date of the competition before contestants are allowed to perform.

·  For the participants, recommended dress is formal

o  Females – long formal gowns or appropriate dress for performance

o  Males – dark suit or black tuxedos/black tie

Judging. There will be a Judge for each category, who is an experienced professional in that area. Winners will be based on who achieves the highest combined score from all judges.

District Competition. The 1st place winner must agree to represent Eta Nu at the talent hunt program. Eta Nu will pay related expenses.) The 2nd place winner will be an alternate. The State competition location and time has yet to bet determined but the 1st place winner will be notified as soon as possible in order to prepare.

Prizes:

·  $400.00 – 1st Place

·  $200.00 – 2nd Place

·  $100.00 – 3rd Place

*Miscellaneous prizes for all contestants will be provided.

* In an effort to prevent traveling with large equipment, a keyboard will be provided for the competition. However, it is strongly recommended that participants arrive early on the day of the competition in order to become familiar with the equipment. The keyboard will be a Yamaha Motif 8. All other instruments must be provided by the contestant. Soundtracks for vocal selection must be on CD (compact disc) and in working condition. Due to the high level of participants in the competition, it is up to the contestant to ensure his/her CD functions properly (i.e. without scratches or defects)
