BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

TIMOTHY BRENNAN
INTERIM SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS
· addressed the district’s goals, including excellence in academics; technology; top notch athletics, physical education, and arts programs; and efficiency.
· encouraged residents to get involved and listed the following meeting dates: curriculum, Jan. 23; finance, Jan 24; buildings and grounds, Jan. 26; athletics, Jan.31.
RECOGNITION
THE BOARD
· commended the Jonas Salk Girls’ Soccer Team for its undefeated season, with a 15-0-0 record. They are: eighth graders – Gabriella Breyburg, Katherine Burrows, Captain Yona Downes, Captain Tara Durstewitz, Captain Jasmine Grossman, Taylor Ianniello, Victoria Kamvissis, Danielle Maschenic, Melanie Santurro, Jessica Tranchina, and Goalie Denise Ventura; seventh graders Heather Adamcewicz, Nicole Carbone, Breanna Jacinto, Shannon Kearns, Tara Kokoszka, Angela Pagiazitis, Madisen Thide, and Cassidy Weickert; and sixth graders, Amanda Abair, Kaitlin Huddy, Jaspinder Kaur, Julia Sandor, Skylar Weickert, and Mackenzie Willis.
· recognized the fifth grade students of Cooper School, teachers Carolyn Pachucki and Jennifer Rebelo, and Principal Susanne Miskiewicz for their participation in the Character Education community service initiative, Farm to School Project, and recognized receipt of a congratulatory letter from First Lady Michelle Obama on their efforts in this endeavor.

THE BOARD
· accepted the ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Grant in the amount of $500 to the Carl Sandburg Middle School RPA Science class for the purchase of 16GB iPad2 with Wi-Fi for $499.
CERTIFICATED PERSONNEL
THE BOARD
· appointed James Oliveri, Vice Principal of Sandburg Middle School, effective Feb. 1, 2012, replacing C. McCue, who was reassigned.
· approved the assignment of Anthony Arico, from Salk Vice Principal to Salk Interim Principal effective Feb. 16, 2012 through June 30, 2012.

The Board
· accepted the retirement of Patricia Penley, a Special Education Paraprofessional Aide at Carpenter School, with deep appreciation for her 28 years of dedicated service to the district, effective Feb. 1, 2012.

· approved the following meetings: agenda meeting, 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2012, in the Patrick Torre Administration Building conference room; regular meeting, 7:30 p.., Feb. 21, 2012 , in the Old Bridge High School TV studio.
