FACULTY OF EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES

ADULT, FOUNDATION PHASE AND EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATIONS EDUCATION

LECTURER /JUNIOR LECTURER

Qualifications:

•ECCE/ECD related Bachelor of Education Honours/ Postgraduate diploma in Education (NQF level 8).• Master’s Degree in Education for Lecturer. A recognised professional Teacher’s Qualification is a basic requirement.

Experience:

•2 years’ experience teaching in ECCE/ECD/ preschool centres or experience at Tertiary level/TVET Colleges dealing with ECCE/ ECD is essential.

Key Performance Areas:•To Register and complete Master’s Degree in the area of ECCE/ ECD within two or three years, a bursary for this is offered only for 2 years.•To develop a good quality Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (birth to 4 years).•To undertake research in Early Childhood Care and Educationand publish in SAPSE accredited journals; •To develop materials for use in teacher education for the Diploma in Early Childhood Care and Education (birth to 4 years) programme •To offer lectures in variety of courses/ modules to students in Diploma in Early Child Care and Education. Educate student teachers in provision of daily care, education and stimulation for emotional, cognitive, sensory, spiritual, moral, physical, social and communication development of children from birth to four. •To promote community engagement •To perform administrative duties related to learning and teaching • To offer quality teaching and teacher Education practices appropriate for Early Childhood Care and Education (birth to 4 years) • To perform any duties that may be assigned by the Project Manager and HOD

Skills and Competencies:•Good computer skills and internet/ information literacy/ technology•Basic research skills•Specialised knowledge in ECCE/ECD•Demonstrate initiative and responsibility in a professional environment•Sound interpersonal skills. Intellectual independence and the development of competence • Good time management skills •Good organisational and planning skills •Ability to communicate verbally at all levels and in written form in English
