Office and Clerical Volunteer

These volunteers will assist with general office tasks

Tasks:

o  Direct mailings

o  Using data entry to update contact lists

o  Scheduling volunteers

o  Communicating dates and opportunities to program participants

o  Deliver hard copy marketing and promotional materials to partners and into the community for public communications.

Skills:

o  Great customer service and communication skills

o  Good writing and typing skills

o  Able to meet deadlines and manage their time

o  Familiarity with Microsoft Office

o  Ability to work online and with limited supervision

o  Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, unless noted by the volunteer coordinator

Communications and Marketing Volunteers

The goal of this position is to provide opportunities for skilled volunteers.

Tasks:

o  Write press releases

o  Maintain social media

o  Assist with formatting and distributing the e-newsletter every other month

o  Update the organization’s website

o  Create hardcopy marketing or promotion materials

o  May have an opportunity to conduct research and compile data sets based on stakeholder and donor information

Skills:

o  Excellent customer service and communication skills

o  Excellent writing and speaking skills

o  Able to meet deadlines

o  Familiarity with Microsoft Office

o  Skilled at Photoshop or another Creative Design Software

o  Comfortable with internet communications

o  Self-reliant with limited supervision

Fund Raising Event Volunteer

There are many choices for volunteers involved with fund raising.

Tasks:

1.  Participating in event planning meetings

2.  Silent Auction:

o  acquire silent auction donations

o  putting items in baskets

o  transporting items to event location

o  assist with bid sheets

o  decorate tables

o  assist with cashing out and delivering items to winners

3.  Set up and/or strike the event including:

o  Transport items

o  Set up tables, banners, canopies

o  Decorating tables

o  Assist with food and food service areas

4.  Door Assistance:

o  taking and selling tickets

o  welcoming and introducing attendees to the event

o  gather names and emails of attendees

5. Children’s Activities:

o  Assist with implementing the planned activities

6. Security:

o  Maintain a presence at doors other than main door

7. Promotion:

o  Deliver handbills and/or posters to designated areas around town

o  Assist with creation of handbills and/or posters

o  Write press releases and send them to designated media outlets

Skills

o  Quick learner

o  Able to think on their feet and take direction

o  Great customer service and communication skills

o  Able to meet deadlines and manage their time

o  Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, unless noted by the volunteer coordinator

o  Enjoy a fast paced event environment

o  Goal oriented individuals will be the most successful

Community Outreach Volunteer

Attendant at booths typically at community festivals, fairs and expos

Tasks:

o  Arrive on time for shift

o  Engage with people and explain organization

o  Gather names and emails of people if interested in further information

o  Assist with setting up/taking down the booth

Skills:

o  Great customer service and communication skills

o  Neat appearance

o  Knowledge of The Vegetable Connection preferred

Farm Volunteer at Participating Farms

It is important to check with the partner’s farms to see when they have volunteer shifts.

Tasks:

o  Learning about planting, maintenance and harvesting vegetables

o  Being outdoors

o  Camaraderie

o  Connecting to the land and our food

o  Gaining a sense of satisfaction and community through group efforts

Skills:

o  Being in good enough physical condition, (backs and knees especially), to handle the tasks

o  Bending, reaching, grasping and lifting up to 10 lbs.

o  Willing to take direction from the farmer or apprentices

Special Events Fund Raising Planning Committee

The Volunteer will help aid in the planning of one of our annual events.

Tasks:

o  Develop the Special Events Fund Raising annual plan

o  Coordinate implementation of annual plan

o  Meet monthly or as needed

o  Identify chairperson for each event

o  Assist with recruiting volunteers for events

o  Report to Board of Directors on regular basis

Skills:

o  Experience with fund raising events

o  Organizing abilities

o  Interpersonal and communication skills

o  Team player

Food School Volunteer

Volunteers help with field trips at the participating school.

Tasks:

o  Lead small group activities

o  Pass out materials

o  Demonstrate and assist students with each task

o  Assist students with navigating through the school garden

Skills:

o  Willingness to work with children from kindergarten to high school

o  Knowledge of gardening is helpful, but not necessary

o  Team player

o  Good communication skills
