NO. R-320. House concurrent resolution congratulating the PoultneyHigh School Blue Devils Division III 2008 cheerleading champions.

Whereas, cheerleaders rouse a team’s fans to root with enthusiasm and strong voices for their favorite hometown athletes’ victory on the playing field, gymnasium floor, or ice rink, and

Whereas, cheerleaders use intricate and well-rehearsed routines and techniques requiring both athletic skills and musical rhythm, and

Whereas, high school cheerleading in Vermont and other states has evolved into a competitive sport in its own right, and the excitement surrounding this sport grows each year, and

Whereas, one of the most respected Vermont high school cheerleading teams participating in interscholastic competition is the Division III Poultney Blue Devils who, coming into the 2007–2008 academic year, have won four consecutive state championships, and

Whereas, the Blue Devils won the Central Vermont Cheerleading Conference earlier this winter, which was excellent preparation for them to play a starring role at the 2008 state championships that were held on Saturday, February 13 at the Robert E. Miller Expo Centre at the Champlain Valley Exposition Fairgrounds in Essex, and

Whereas, teams at the Essex event were required to perform their best from the start as they have only three minutes and one chance to execute their presentations, and

Whereas, when the competition was concluded, the Blue Devils’ 173 points were the highest in Division III, and they left thrilled to have earned their fifth consecutive state cheerleading state championship title, and

Whereas, the roster of agile and athletic Poultney High School cheerleaders includes Brylea Betit, Erika Carter, Alexandra Chamberlain, Taylor Diefendorf, Nicolette DuVal, Ashley Fox, Megan Franzoni, Staci Jedlick, Katarina Kerber, Macaela Lewis, Joanna Lilly, Ashley Morgan, Caileigh Nagar, Meredith Oakman, Jami Panoushek, Ryan Pettis, Amanda Petty, Kassey Powers, Kelsey Powers, Brooke Rupe, Aaron Snook, Brittany Snook, and Tammy Thomas, and

Whereas, coach Rommy Fuller thoroughly prepared these young cheerleaders to withstand the rigors of the Essex meet and to emerge victorious, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Poultney High School Blue Devils Division III 2008 cheerleading champions, and be it further

Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Rommy Fuller at PoultneyHigh School.
