ESTABLISHMENT AND COORDINATION COMMITTEE

FORMAL SUBMISSION

“REGIONAL AND LOCAL COMMUNITY INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM – ROUND 3”

FROM THE MEETING OF MONDAY 26 JULY 2010

The Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Round Three (RLCIP 3) funding will assist Brisbane City Council (Council) to build and modernise community facilities, including town halls, libraries, community centres, sports grounds and environmental infrastructure. The funding is aimed at strengthening our communities during the economic recovery by supporting local jobs and providing long-term benefits to communities by renewing and upgrading local infrastructure.

On Friday, 18 June 2010, the Australian Government announced a further $100M available to Local Governments for eligible projects. Of this funding, Brisbane City Council will receive an automatic allocation of $1.206M for RLCIP 3.

Although the revenue is an automatic allocation, the Department has changed its application approach for this round and now requires a detailed application for each project. Grant applications are for:

· Brisbane Botanical Gardens – Mt Coot-tha – Water Sustainability Project ($85,000)

· Brisbane Botanical Gardens – Mt Coot-tha – Water Conservation Infrastructure Project ($300,000)

· Wickham Terrace Car Park Renewable Energy Project ($500,000)

· Biambi Yumba “Inclusive Play” Playground Project ($360,000)

The Establishment and Coordination Committee granted approval to lodge four grant applications to the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government under its Regional and Local Community Infrastructure Program – Round 3.
