What You Need to Know about WATER at TIPTON

Of the City of Edmonton’s 40 neighbourhood standing water wading pools 32 have already been retrofitted to spray decks. 2012 is the final year for the conversion of any remaining City of Edmonton wading pools. The final 8 (standing water) wading pools in the City of Edmonton are scheduled for conversion to a Spray deck in 2012 and the one in Tipton Park is one of these.

The wading pool conversion project is in response to the mandated provincial health safety standards (Public Health Act Swimming Pool Regulations). City of Edmonton wading pools do not meet the required standard. Standing water wading pools are no longer allowed under the new Alberta Public Health Act – Swimming Pool Regulations. The City of Edmonton is converting all neighbourhood standing water wading pools to spray decks. The final year of this wading pool conversion project is 2012.

The City of Edmonton will cover all project costs that are associated with the conversion of a wading pool to a base level spray deck with six standard ground sprays (without above ground water features). If the Community wishes to partner with the City to provide funds to enhance the spray deck beyond base level (ground sprays) they are invited to do so. Enhancements to a spray deck may include: above ground water features and / or a surfacing upgrade from cement to colored cement or a rubber surface.

Queen Alexandra Community League has the following choices:

•  Choose to partner with the City of Edmonton with a spray deck enhanced beyond base level.

•  Choose to have the City of Edmonton proceed with a base level spray deck.

•  Close the existing infrastructure until a complete park master plan can be updated. (Funding for retrofits beyond 2012 is not guaranteed.)

The City of Edmonton and Queen Alexandra Community League are taking this opportunity to develop a master plan for Tipton Park. The primary focus INITIALLY is what kind of water, if any, do the residents envision for this site. Any equipment for water would need to be ordered before December 2011.
