Odyssey Presentations
During our study of The Odyssey, you will be responsible for reading, discussing, and presenting one book with a partner. You must be thorough and creative in your presentation.
Note: if you need photocopies made for any part of your presentation, you MUST see me during lunch the day before your presentation.
In your presentation, your group must tell the class the following information and also provide the following information on either a 5-slide PowerPoint presentation or a 1-2 page paper handout:
1. Write a summary of the events of the book (1-2 paragraphs)
2. Indentify the major and minor characters in the book
3. Tie the events in the book to the theme of the epic
4. Identify and explain examples of THREE epic conventions (provide quotes + line/page numbers)
5. Identify and explain how THREE characteristics of the epic hero are shown
6. Complete one of the following activities:
o Create a game or puzzle about information in your book and give the class an “infomercial” and demonstration of your game
o Dramatize a scene from the book for the class
o Draw several illustrations and discuss your illustrations of some of the key events or characters in the book
o Write and read sample diary entries or letters that might have been written by each of the main characters in your book
o Make a video presentation re-enacting the events of the book (must be less than 7 min.)
o Rewrite the book in modern language and read/act out for the class
o Create masks symbolizing major characters (include character descriptions using text)
o Develop a colorful comic strip depicting the action of the book
o Write a song about events/characters in the book and perform it or play a recording of it (type/write the lyrics)
o Prepare, administer and correct a ten-point FIVE QUESTION quiz that you will give to the class the day AFTER the presentation (still must be prepared and handed in to me on the day OF your presentation)
o Any other special activity must be cleared with me first
7. Attached to this page, you will find a Presentation Form. This form MUST be completed and handed in at the beginning of you presentation for you to receive a grade!
Note: The Due Date/Deadline for this assignment is THE DAY YOU ARE ASSIGNED TO PRESENT. If you are absent on the day of your presentation, you will receive credit ONLY if you turn in all work in writing, plus 25% will be docked from your grade. If you are absent and miss a presentation by another group, it is your responsibility to get the notes from a classmate and be prepared to take any missed quizzes on the day of your return.
