ODC PURSUIT RACE May 9, 2015

Other than the heading and file names, this has not been updated from the 2014 documents..

1RULES

1.1The regatta will be governed by the rules defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing for 2013 -2016.

1.2In the event of conflict between the Notice of Race and these Sailing Instructions, the Sailing Instructions shall prevail.

1.3A violation of rule 55 can result in a penalty other than disqualification.

2Notices to competitors

2.1Notices to competitors will be posted on the ODC website before 0800 the day of the race.

3CHANGES TO SAILING INSTRUCTIONS

3.1Any changes to the sailing instructions will be posted on the ODC website before 0800 the day of the race.

4SCHEDULE

4.1The Skippers Meeting HAS BEEN CANCELLED. This changes the NOR.

4.2We will attempt to hold one race.

4.3The scheduled time for the first boat to start is 1100. Alist ofstarting times for each boat will be published, posted on the ODC website and sent to you. Each boat will have a different starting time for each of the two possible courses.

4.4Should we have to delay for any reason, each of the starting times will be advanced in 30 minute increments for any later starts.

5RACING AREA

The racing area will be on the Neuse River south of the town of Oriental...

DCFlashing red “2” at the entrance to Dawson Creek

O Flashing green”1” at the entrance to Oriental

AC Flashing green “AC1” approaching the entrance to Adams Creek

6THE COURSE

6.1There will be two possible courses. The actual course used will be determined by the conditions on the day of the race. The race will start at the race committee(RC) signal boat anchored at a point off of Wiggins Point that lies on both of the course tracks. Course 1; O – 7 – AC (6.9 nm);

Course 2: 7 – AC - DC (10.3 nm)

Each course may be sailed around in either direction, the RC will announce over the VHF the course number and either clockwise (all marks left to starboard) or counterclockwise (all marks left to port).

7The start/FINISH

7.1The starting/finishing line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on the signal boat at the starboard end of the line and a racing mark at the port end of the starting line.

7.2Boats should finish across this line from the direction of the last mark.

7.3All boats will start no earlier than their assigned time using GPS time. Some of the starting times are within minutes of each other. Be sure not to stray too far when your time is near but don’t interfere with boats starting at a time ahead of you.

8TIME LIMIT

8.1The time limit for the first boat to finish will be 3 hours.

9PROTESTS AND REQUESTS FOR REDRESS

9.1A boat intending to protest shall report to the RCon the signal boat as soon as possible after finishing, giving the RC its sail number and the sail number(s) of the protested boat(s).

9.2Protests must be filed with the RC at the Whittaker Pointe Marinawithin 1 hour after the signal boat has docked for the day. US Sailing protest forms will be available. The time of docking will also be posted at the marina.

9.3Requests for redress shall be filed in accordance with rule 62.2.

10SCORING

10.1Boats will be scored in the order in which they cross the finish line.

10.2Boats still racing 30 minutes after the first boat sails the proper course and finishes will be finished in place by the RC.

11RADIO COMMUNICATION

11.1All boats shall carry an operating VHF radio tuned to channel 78A.

11.2 All relevantinformation regarding the course, starting times, postponements or anything else will be over this channel.

12PRIZES

There will be no prizes available except the joy and self-satisfaction of a day on the water with friends. There will be a social for ALL HANDS after the racing at the Whittaker Pointe MarinaThis location changes the NOR. ODC will provide soft drinks, beer, and chips.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See rule 4, Decision to Race. Neither the organizing authority nor the race committee will accept any liability for material damage, personal injury, or death in conjunction with, prior to, during, or after the regatta.
