SCHOLARSHIP UPDATE

Mount Tabor High School

March 19, 2012

Students and Parents are welcome to look for updated and current scholarship information on the SCHOLARSHIP RACK, just inside the Guidance Office door.

The Winston-Salem Foundation common scholarship application is now open. Search for scholarship opportunities and complete the application at www.wsfoundation.org. The deadline is April 15, 2012. (Some scholarships coordinated by the Winston-Salem Foundation have a separate application process).

Seniors and parents should search for scholarship/financial aid opportunities at CFNC.org and collegeboard.org. You will find information about North Carolina residential programs and other programs based on student interests, characteristics, credentials, plans for postsecondary education, and other criteria. All North Carolina financial aid programs are described in the 2012 edition of Student Aid for North Carolinians, available at CFNC.org/fabook.

Eligibility for need-based financial aid programs is based on submitting the FAFSA. Some colleges/universities require the CSS/Profile also. Families that have not filed the FAFSA should do so ASAP.

The 2011 North Carolina General Assembly enacted legislation that merged multiple state programs into a single program known as the FORGIVEABLE EDUCATION LOANS FOR SERVICE PROGRAM (FELS), providing forgivable loans to qualified North Carolina residents who are committed to working in North Carolina in identified high-need professions. FELS recipients will sign a promissory note agreeing to work in North Carolina in their approved fields of study. The FELS application and program details, including the amounts that will be awarded and the qualifying fields of study will be posted at CFNC.org/FELS. Some information is posted now with a deadline of April 1, 2012.
