Association strategic plan

(Objective 1 ) Holy Trinity Catholic School (HTCS) will be known for academic excellence.

(Strategy 1)HTCS will individualize our curriculum systems.

Timeline / Responsibility / Progress Report
(Action Step 1)Evaluate student needs / levels and collect data using school selected standardized test and other classwork / 2015-16 / Professional staff / (Goal: 75% of students achieve 80th percentile on Standardized test by 2019 in all areas.)
2015-16 Holy Trinity professional staff implemented the MAPS standardized test program. Students tested in the fall, winter, and spring. Using the test results, professional staff met as a team, and by grade levels, plus reviewed individually the test scores of students. Professional staff also used formative assessment information to begin charting student learning in Math and Reading.
(Action Step 2) Investigate resources to support individualized curriculum. / 2015-16 / Professional staff / 2015-16 Professional staff investigated and piloted resources to support individual learning. Preschool staff implemented the MN Reading Corp curriculum. End of year test results indicated a high rate of learning success by the students. Grades 1-6 students with lower ability in reading were provided with one-on-one Barton instruction by paraprofessionals. Classroom teachers monitored student progress with Barton supplemental reading program. One quarter of the professional staff piloted an online individualized Math program, Front Row. Students at all levels demonstrated an increased growth in learning Math standards. HTCS will continue to use Barton Reading strategies and will purchase Front Row for Math differentiation. A list of resources in Math and Reading that correlated to the MAPS test results were provided to parents twice during the school year. Teachers will be investigating more resources in 2016-17.
(Action Step 3) Secure funding for resources / 2015-16 / Finance committee & School Board / 2015-16 The curriculum expense budget was increased from $3,000 to $5,000. Academic supplies were increased from $10,000 to $20,000.
(Action Step 4) Staff development for teachers on resources and differentiation / 2016-17 / Professional staff / 2016-17 The professional staff was provided training through webinars and on workshop days. In October the teachers attended a Diocesan training at HTCS on writing scales for mathematics curriculum. A scale differentiates a standard for the students. The scale is used to monitor student progress toward mastery of the standard.
In December the teachers attended webinars and had discussion on on-line resources that would support differentiation for students. The resources were Front Row and AR 360.
In January the teachers received training on utilizing the MAPS testing results to guide instruction for individual students.
In March the teachers reviewed the new Everyday Math curriculum. They looked at the curriculum resources to see how they could be used to differentiate for students.
(Action Step 5)Implement best practices and resources in the classroom to achieve student academic growth / 2016-17 / Professional staff / 2016-17 The teachers implemented best practices by using scales and MAPS testing results to monitor student academic growth for math and reading. Front Row was purchased for Math and used in the classroom to provide support for student learning.
(Action Step 6)Monitor progress of students / 2016-17 / Professional staff / 2016-17 The spring MAP test results indicated student growth was achieved by differentiating for students and using best practices in the classroom. Students began to use self-monitoring scales (4-3-2-1) to let the teacher know where they were with the daily “I Can” statement posted in the classroom. Front Row provided a report card and matrix groupings that showed students’ levels of learning. The teachers adjusted instruction based on information gathered through implementation of all of the above.
(Strategy 2)HTCS will develop a comprehensive assessment program
Timeline / Responsibility / Progress Report
(Action Step 1) Develop a philosophy of assessment / 2014-15
2015-16 / Professional staff / (Goal: 75% of students achieve 80th percentile on Standardized test by 2019 in all areas.)
14-15 The professional staff discussed assessment, but did not develop a philosophy of assessment. The leadership team is implementing the Marzano learning map with the professional staff. The staff spent the year learning about Marzano and implementing written daily learning goals in the classroom. During 2015-16 the leadership team will work with the professional staff in developing a philosophy of assessment as we continue to move through Marzano training.
2015-16 The assessment committee, with the help of the Holy Trinity professional staff, determined the important components needed for assessments. After several meetings, the following philosophy of assessment was developed: HTCS believes formative and summative assessments to be valuable tools that reflect students’ academic abilities and application of skills. Assessments provide valuable data in the process of improving instruction, determining individual student needs, and meeting academic standards. A collaborative effort between educators, parents and the school community is an integral component to using assessment to improve educational performance.
(Action Step 2) Research standardized assessment tools / 2014-15 / Professional staff / 14-15The staff attended presentations on three standardized assessment tools: STAR 360, Aspire, and NWEA – MAPS. The public school is also evaluating their formative assessment tool. The Title 1 teacher also shared information with the staff.
(Action Step 3) Evaluate options / 2014-15 / Professional staff / 14-15The professional staff used a t-bar organizational chart to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each assessment tool. The staff shared their information at a staff meeting and through Google drive. The staff chose NWEA-MAPS because it serves PK-6, measures student growth plus will assist in providing differentiation in instruction, includes Science, and is affordable.
(Action Step 4) Secure necessary funding / 2014-15 / Administrator / 14-15State Aid-to-Nonpublic funds will provide the funding.
(Action Step 5) Implementing the new program / 2015-16 / Professional staff / 2015-16 At the beginning of the school year, a consultant on summative assessments with knowledge on MAPS presented to professional staff information on the new assessment tool. All students were given the test in the fall, winter, and spring. The consultant came back after the first testing session to instruct staff on how to best utilize the testing results.
(Action Step 6)Evaluating the data collected / 2015-16 / Professional staff / 2015-16 After each testing session, the staff met together to discuss how to interpret and use the data. Classroom teachers used the data collected to individualize instruction for students.
(Action Step 7)Make adjustments to the program / 2015-16 / Professional staff / 2015-16 After the first testing session, testing process accommodations were made for students and classes. Some accommodations included adjusting testing times and dates, the testing devices, and changes in which tests to take first. The staff will continue to evaluate the program and seek on-going training.
(Strategy 3)HTCS will establish a technology integration program / map
Timeline / Responsibility / Progress Report
(Action Step 1)Research technology standards that incorporate integration with grade-level curriculum / 2014-15 /

Technology committee

/ (Goal: All graduates complete “integrated technology proficiency” capstone course.)
14-15The technology committee researched through the internet technology standards used by other schools across the country. The committee chose to emulate the Washington State standards, as they fit the school’s technology philosophy and will provide the integration structure for the professional staff. The Washington State educational technology standards were categorized around students using technology within all content areas for integration (collaborate, communicate, generate innovative ideas, investigate and problem solve) and digital citizenship (demonstrating a clear understanding of technology systems and operations and practice safe, legal, and ethical behavior).
(Action Step 2)Visit other schools that integrate technology. / 2015-16
move to
2016-17
move to
2017-18 /

Professional staff

/ 2015-16 This did not occur. Due to time constraints, staff was not introduced to the standards early in the year. This would have made it difficult for staff to observe since they would not have known what to look for. As staff members become better acquainted with the standards, priority will be given to school observations in the future. Move action step to 2017-18.
2016-17 This did not occur. There were five new teachers and veteran teachers were mentors. Visiting other schools was not a priority. The teachers discussed this goal at the end of the year and determined that visiting other schools would be of value to see how technology is being integrated and what systems schools are using that are on a limited budget. Move action step to 2017-18.
(Action Step 3)Revise grade-level curriculum to include technology standards / 2015-16 /

Professional staff

/ 2015-16 Technology integration curriculum standards were finalized during May of 2015. The media specialist worked on implementing the standards into the technology curriculum for a better understanding of how it would correlate with classroom curriculum during the 2015-2016 school year. The media specialist worked with a small core of classroom teachers to begin implementing a variety of technology and applications for classroom usage. During an April in-service day, time was used to introduce the standards to all teachers and shared how integration has been occurring.
(Action Step 4)Receive training on skills required to integrate technology standards into the grade-level curriculum. / 2015-16 /

Professional staff

/ 2015-16 During an April in-service training session, teachers were introduced to the standards, and given examples of how those standards have been used. A primary focus of the standards includes using spreadsheets in a variety of ways. Time was spent on learning the basics of spreadsheets and how to create graphs with entered data, and recognizing how this could be used in the classroom setting.
(Action Step 5) Schedule time for technology teacher to work in the classroom. / 2016-17
Move to
2017-18 /

Leadership Team

/ 2016-17 The media specialist spent a large percentage of non-instructional time on trouble-shooting newly purchased devices. The last third of the school year finally provided sometime for her to work more closely with teachers in the classroom. This action step will move forward to 2017-18.
(Action Step 6) Technology teacher will collaborate with classroom teacher on integration in the classroom. / 2016-17
Move to
2017-18 /

Professional staff

/ 2016-17 The media specialist surveyed the teachers and will use the information for future planning. ISTE (International Society of Technology in Education) released new technology standards for students. The standards will incorporate many essential skills based themes for transforming learning environments with the support of technology. This will change the conversation between the media specialist and the classroom teacher. This action step will move forward to 2017-18.
(Action Step 7)Assess implementation twice during the school year. / 2016-17 /

Professional staff

/ 2016-17 In May the teachers assessed our action steps in Strategy 3: HTCS will establish a technology integration program map. When the strategic plan was written four years ago, there has been a change in teachers and in the use of technology in the classroom. Based on where we are today, this strategy will be rewritten. This will be a priority for the professional staff in 2017-18.

Association strategic plan

(Strategy 4)HTCS will integrate 1 to 1 technology.

(Strategy 2) HTCS will connect with the four supporting parishes to plan quarterly family Sundays at each parish.
Timeline / Responsibility / Progress Report
(Action Step 1) Form a faith committee including a staff member and one parishioner from each parish, plus a staff member and one parishioner from Father Pierz School of Religion (FPSR), public school religious education program. / 2015-16
forward to
2016-17 / Faith committee / (Goal: Increase family participation in school / parish faith events by 10% annually.)
2015-16A staff member met with an employee of the religious education program to create a plan for forming a faith committee that included parents from both the Catholic school and religious education program. Parents were called and asked in conversation to be part of the committee. No parents were willing to make a commitment. The administrator spoke to each of the four parish councils and trustees asking for ideas on how to move this forward. Due to lack of interest, a new approach will have to be tried next year. Therefore, the following actions steps will be moved forward.
2016-17 The over all strategy was to build a stronger connection between school families and their parish. The action steps to reach the end result had to be changed. Holy Trinity School and Father Pierz School of Religion (release time program for public school students) staff worked together to organize a liturgy at each parish the first Sunday in October. Families signed up to participate. Parents who signed up were asked to take the lead for practice and being at the liturgy. The liturgies were well attended and appreciated by the parishes. This model will continue to be used into the future.
(Action Step 2)Develop, implement, and evaluate a survey for staff, parents, and each of the four parishes to gather information for implementing a family Sunday at each parish. / 2016-17 / Faith committee / 2016-17 The leadership revised the action steps. See above.
(Action Step 3) Assign parents leaders at each parish / 2016-17 / Faith committee / 2016-17 Parents were assigned as leaders based on participation.
(Action Step 4)Establish a calendar of dates for the family Sundays / 2016-17 / Faith committee / 2016-17 Only one family Sunday was held this school year.
(Action Step 5) Carry out the family Sundays / 2016-17 / Parent Leaders / 2016-17 The family Sunday was carried out in October.
(Action Step 6) Evaluate the program / 2016-17 / Faith committee / 2016-17 Three of the four parishes have parents who have now begun to organize more family Sundays with children participation. It has been a success.
(Action Step 7) Make adjustments to the program / 2016-17 / Faith committee / 2016-17 No adjustments will be made. Holy Trinity and FPSR will continue to organize one family liturgy and parents at the parishes will work with the pastors to add more dates.
(Strategy 3)HTCS will host an annual family mission / retreat.
Timeline / Responsibility / Progress Report
(Action Step 1)Research family retreat options / 2016-17 /
