Program Objective
Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center provides a Summer Externship opportunity, to introduce a real worldview of clinical medicine as well as to expand the clinical perspective of students.
Students will primarily function as observers, although the externship experience should enhance the student's doctor-patient communication ability and physical diagnosis skills. Students will be introduced to how physicians make clinical decisions and be given the opportunity to increase their knowledge base by reading on the patient's who will be seen daily.
Location
We are located in Dearborn, MI, about 1/8 of a mile from the Southfield Freeway (M-39). However, the Family Medicine Externship is located at Annapolis Hospital in Wayne, MI. For further information, please visit our website at

Program Description
- The length of the summer externship is three weeks.
- There are three time blocks available.
- Externships will begin in early June and end in late July.
- Externship hours are approximately 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- Externship pay is $ 300.00 per week.
Requirements
- Students must be between their first and second year of medical school.
- The following materials are required for application:
- Letter of Intent
- Resume
- Letter from your medical school stating that you are a student in good standing
- Applications are due March 1st

*Program choice and time block are assigned on a first come, first serve basis.
*There are only two students allowed for Family Medicine & Internal Medicine for each block offered.
*There is only one student allowed for Cardiology & Ob/Gyn for each block offered.
*There are only three students allowed for Surgery for each block offered.
*Cardiology and Surgery are not offered in the second time block.
*You will be notified by March 15th if you have been accepted into the program
