Objectives:

Upon completion of NUR 106 the student is prepared to:

1. Practice the role of the nurse related to promotion of health during the childbearing years.

2. Discuss principles of nursing care related to the basic needs of the newly expanding family.

3. Utilize the nursing process in implementing the concepts of care of the expanding family.

4. Utilize therapeutic communication skills to establish a caring nurse-client relationship recognizing cultural differences.

5. Demonstrate appropriate skills and technology related to the newly expanding family according to established criteria.

6. Practice teaching/learning principles related to the care of the newly expanding family.

7. Discuss selected legal issues related to reproductive health and its implication on nursing care.

8. Identify ethical principles in clinical situations and case studies related to the expanding family.

9. Apply the concepts of pain management in the care of the expanding family.

10. Relate community resources appropriate for the expanding family’s needs.
