Responsibilities
Job Summary
The academic health system is a grouping of health care providers and academic institutions that seek to work in partnership to advance health and wellbeing in Qatar. Research is key to achieving this goal. As a founding member of the AHS, Hamad Medical Corporation seeks to employ staff tocollaborate in undertaking world leading research. Nurse Research Scientists(NRS) will be expected to collaborate on a number of clinical studies and begin to develop their own programme of research as part of a multidisciplinary group under the leadership of a principal investigator (PI). It is expected that within 3 years they will be an established independent investigator. NRSs will take a leading role in the development of research protocols as part of a research group. Evidence synthesis and identification of important research questions are key to the role. The NRSwill also be responsible for coordinating research projects and ensuring that they adhere to thetrial (project) protocol and recruit to time and target. Project management tasks may include, but not be limited to,monitoring patient recruitment and procedures for obtaining informed consent, training research nurses/research staff to collect biological samples, conducting physical and psychological examinations and assessments. Establish procedures for data entry and checking. Research across the AHS is conducted to the highest possible international standards and you will be expected to ensure adherence to guidelines for Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and Good Research Practices(GRP).
Common Responsibilities
This job description should be read in conjunction with the HMC Registered Nurse/Midwife Scope of Practice,the HMC Competency Framework for the Research Track, HMC Code of LeadershipBehaviours and the HMC Code of Professional Behaviour and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives.
Nurse Research Scientists are primarily responsible to Principal Investigators.
They will also need work effectively with senior nurses in the clinical areas in which they are working.
Administrative
  • Leads literature reviewing and evidence synthesis
  • Leads the development of research protocols
  • Leads the preparation and submission of documents for research funding
  • Leads the preparation and submission of documents to the Joint Institutional Review Board (JIRB)
  • Leads the production of case record forms, study master and site files and other study documentation
  • Leads the writing of reports and publications emanating from the study
  • Attends trial management and steering committees as required
Field work
  • Ensures confidentiality and safety of research participants at all times
  • Co-ordinates and participates in setting up research sites
  • Strictly adheres to the approved project protocol
  • Manages recruitment, to time and target, of research participants
  • Consents research participants
  • Supervises data entry and checking
Accountability
  • Responsible for maintaining accuracy, quality and timeliness of research reports and data related to research projects
  • Effective and timely communication of information to members of the research group
  • The post holder will be required to adhere to research legislative and regulatory requirements including HMC and SCH policies, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and International Conference on Harmonization – Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP)
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned by the research team and immediate supervisor

Educational Qualifications & Certificates
Essential Education:
  • Masters in relevant subject
  • Has undertaken certified specialty education as per the Job Description

Preferred Education:
  • As above

Required certification/licensure:
  • Valid nursing license from the country of origin AND be eligible for license in the Supreme Council for Health State of Qatar
  • Relevant life support/resuscitation certificates preferred, but there will opportunity to undertake as part of orientation
  • Valid driver’s license (HHCS only)

Experience
Essential Experience:
  • Minimum 4 years post nursing registration
  • Including a minimum of 2 years clinical research experience

Skills
Language Skills:
  • English – reading, writing, spoken – proficient (essential)
  • Arabic (preferred)
Computer Skills:
  • Excellent computer skills including statistical packages (STATA, SPSS)
