  1. Please brainstorm some questions for the field survey (NURO team)
  2. Work to solidify a good definition of uncertainty for the CFI group (NURO team)
  3. Edit/modify the goals of the survey (NURO team)
  4. Clarify goal of this survey to MSD and SSD chiefs (L. Anderson, P. Hirschberg)
  5. Solidify funding needs/access (L. Anderson)
  6. Send list of SOO COMAP to Lee Anderson (D. Bright)
  7. Conduct conference call on 7/13/07 with CFI group to solidify work proposal.

  1. Develop some questions for the COMET COMAP SOOs in addressing their uncertainty needs (D. Bright, open)
  2. Subset of this group could be used for survey
  3. CFI meeting outcome (L. Anderson, M. Mullusky, in progress)
  4. Background info about AWIPS Ensemble Display issue (D. Novak, closed)
  5. Memo was sent to AWIPS group
  • Discussion about MSD and SSD chiefs input about survey
  • NURO group agrees that we need to survey our field in some way
  • Chiefs concern about getting user/customer input is important but not in the scope of what NURO team is tasked with
  • Need to emphasize the goal to get requirements from the field to the Chiefs
  • Survey of SOOs and WCMs good idea
  • How to decide the break-out of who will be surveyed?
  • Need to work this out with CFI group
  • What is the overall goal of this survey?
  • What uncertainty information are the forecasters using to make their forecasts?
  • What are the barriers to using the uncertainty information available?
  • What are the experimental-side tools being used in individual offices? –SOOs would be a good resource
  • Field would have a good idea of what their customers might want –WCMs would know
  • Focus on high impact events?

NO – there is no clear-cut definition of what clarifies a high impact event yet

  • CFI group proposals
  • Do we still want to do both a qualitative and quantitative survey?
  • Same group to do both?
  • Might be easier for SOOs and WCMs to do the interviews
