A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Reverend James Wallace Kent.

With deep respect, we take a moment to pay our respects to Frankfort's Pastor, Reverend James Wallace Kent.

WHEREAS, Reverend James Wallace Kent, born April 16, 1936, in Heflin, Alabama, to the late James Hoyt and Pearl Evans Kent, was the heart and soul of the Frankfort community; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Kent served the citizens of Frankfort for 38 years as minister to Crestwood Baptist Church and recently as minister to senior adults at Buck Run Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Kent previously served as minister to the Little Mount Baptist Church in Spencer County, Kentucky, where he met and married Bettye Zoe, his wife of 52 years; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Kent also ministered to English-speaking Special Forces stationed in Bad Tolz, Germany, and the Macedonia Baptist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Reverend Kent was a devoted member of Frankfort Rotary Club and Buck Run Baptist Church, served as a board member for the Senior Activity Center in Frankfort, and enjoyed the "McDonald's Breakfast Club," a convocation of old and new friends he met regularly at the McDonald's on Versailles Road in Frankfort for coffee and fellowship; and

WHEREAS, a kind and gentle spirit who celebrated life and the people he met, Reverend Kent would frequently visit sick friends, church members or anyone in need of words of solace and prayer, and he was a fount of spiritual comfort to many; and

WHEREAS, on October 16, 2012, Reverend Kent left his corporeal existence and was called home to be with the Lord. Reverend Kent leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years, Bettye Zoe Marattay Kent; his children, twin daughters Julie Fuson (Jeff) and Jenifer Leslie (Kenneth), Stephen Kent (Michelle), Alison Cuentas (Jorge), Andrew Kent (Rebecca), and Nathan Kent (fiancée, Melissa Moon); 11 grandchildren, Evelyn, Joshua, and Kaleb Fuson, Thomas and Zoe Leslie, Nelia, Rachel, and Lydia Cuentas and Taylor, Madison, and Hunter Wallace Kent; and all the people who were touched by Reverend Kent;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The members of the Senate, both individually and collectively, express their most profound and sincere condolences upon the passing of Reverend James Wallace Kent to his family, friends, and community.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Reverend James Wallace Kent, Frankfort's spiritual beacon to all who met him.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Bettye Zoe Kent, 319 Westover Road, Frankfort, Kentucky 40601.
