OTC New Product Research Director, China Category Team, Wellness/Oral Health R&D, GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare

Location: Shanghai, China

Basic qualifications:
PhD scientist from one of the following backgrounds: pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacy, pharmaceutical science, chemistry.
8 years OTC research experience preferably in the analgesic/respiratory in Pharmaceutical/Consumer Healthcare industry required.
Demonstrable world class analgesic/respiratory scientific network and publications list.
Ability to interface with several diverse departments, or the personality and dynamism to indicate that this is achievable.
Significant experience of partnering with external collaborators and achieving results.
Proven ability to complete projects on time and within budget.
Good communication and technical writing skills, excellent spoken and written English and Mandarin

Reporting to the Head of GSK CH R&D China-Wellness/Oral Heath, candidates must demonstrate the following characteristics:

Key aspects of the role will be the following:
Manage and direct the research in line with the R&D and commercial strategy.
Work with the commercial team to help set and refine the strategy for analgesic/respiratory product innovation.
Identify and create new product opportunities and product improvements, which add value to the category, through internal research and the exploitation of external licensing opportunities.
Develop and monitor the IP position for analgesic/respiratory projects and products
Other aspects of the position are as follows:
Optimize product claims for therapeutic effectiveness and suitability in conjunction with the Medical and Regulatory groups.
Evaluate all projects and opportunities with a high degree of scientific rigour, and ensure the highest standards are followed.
Stay current within the Analgesic/respiratory scientific community and encourage team members to publish data in appropriate media.
Maintain commercial and competitive awareness to refine strategy and plans when required.
Write detailed and accurate scientific reports on the evaluation of new product opportunities, and when required, scientific position pieces on aspects of current products/ingredients.
Balance pragmatic approach vs. pure scientific approach in best interests of the business.
Champion ideas through to evaluation stage and challenge commercial opposition when appropriate.
Publish papers in the scientific and medical literature in support of new product developments, or product defense, as appropriate.
Identify and create new product opportunities and product improvements, which add value to the category, through internal research and the exploitation of external licensing opportunities.
Work with the Category Team, Business Development, and Open Innovation, to identify new product opportunities for the category.
