The National Pan-Hellenic Council is the governing body of the nine historically African-American fraternities and sororities. These organizations are committed to scholarship, community service and cultural enrichment. The primary purpose of the National Pan-Hellenic Council is to create and maintain high standards and to perpetuate constructive relationships both within and among our affiliate organizations. NPHC affiliates and their respective members have pledged to devote their resources to service in their communities as well as a lifetime commitment to the goals and ideals of each organization.
In said commitment to scholarship, community service and cultural enrichment, the National Pan-Hellenic Council awards scholarships to graduating seniors that exemplify high academic achievement, leadership, and involvement within the community. The scholarships will be awarded at the winners’ Awards Day Ceremonies at his/her schools. The application, essay and letters of recommendation will be reviewed by the National Pan-Hellenic Council Birmingham Chapter’s Scholarship Committee.
To be considered a candidate for the NPHC Scholarship Award for 2014-2015, the following criteria are mandatory:
1. Complete attached application
2. Submit official school transcript showing a 3.0 GPA or higher
3. Submit three letters of recommendation (must not be a relative)
4. Submit verification that 50 hours of community service have been completed
5. Submit documentation listing involvement in any extra-curricular activities
6. An essay (500 words) disclosing information about yourself and how a college education will positively affect your life
The completed application package must be postmarked by March 16, 2015.
