GLYC InterClub (20 & 21 October 2007)

Well done and thank you to all those who took part in what can only be described as a truly awesome event. Once again strong teams took part from Algoa Bay YC and Knysna YC and much work was put into trying to wrestle the Trophy away from GLYC.

In the end the Senior Trophy was cleanly won by the GLYC Team with the individual winner of the fleet being David Shilton from KYC.

The Junior Trophy was won by the team from ABYC, with the individual winner being Rosey Finn of KYC.

And the Novice Trophy was won by KYC with Peter Bendon from KYC taking the individual title. Our new member, Jonathon Rees was second.

As always we are particularly proud of our Novice fleet and therefore extent our heartfelt thanks to Roy Shilton and Andrew Finn (KYC) who came all the way, boat and all to run it.

This was also the fleet (10 in total) that represented 5 (five) yacht clubs with members from KYC, GLYC, ABYC, MBYC and RYC. Well done to all of you.

As always these events would not be what they are without some outside help, in this case it was TOTAL Sedgefield that came to the party with some sponsorship. You will have noticed the umbrella’s, T-Shirts and caps which were worn by our Rescue and Bridge crew and the bags that were put to good use as “goodie” bags. Thank you Total!!

I think that everyone agrees that this was a very special InterClub, the weather was great, the wind was constant (as in there), the vibe was awesome and the Rugby, well……… if you weren’t there watching on the big screen then you really missed out. Thanks to Ant Parker for organising this!

A special word of thanks to everyone who helped with the running of this regatta, from the caterers to the Bridge and most importantly to our Rear Commodore, Diane Parker who put in a tremendous amount of time and effort into making this what it was. Well done and Thank you.

FET – Glenwood (27 & 28 October 2007)

The GLYC Sailing school will be hosting the Glenwood FET course this coming weekend. FET (Further Education & Training) forms part of the OBE (Outcomes Based Education) Curriculum for Grade 10 – 12 Learners. OBE is divided into 8 sections; one of these being LO (Life Orientation) and this is where Sport plays a part. Every school will have to provide some option of FET for their learners so why not encourage more of them to use Sailing as a means of achieving the required outcome. For more information on FET and what is needed please speak to either Barbara or Deryk Eckersley as they are currently the reigning experts in this field.
