3) Dr. Trigg: Physicians for National Health. Single-Payer Healthcare Program
- We had the pleasure of learning about the controversial issue of Single-Payer Healthcare from Dr. Bruce Trigg, an active member of the New Mexico Department of Health. Dr. Trigg also serves as the a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Associate Professor of Nursing at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center.
-Dr. Trigg’s presentation focused deeply on the fundamentals of healthcare in the United States. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with the opportunity to obtain adequate care in the United States. Although other countries have defined healthcare as a basic human right, the United States remains as a privatized sector. Healthcare is primarily available to those who can afford it. Dr. Trigg elaborated much further on this controversial issue; this was a perfect prelude to the upcoming presidential elections. Members were given the opportunity to learn about the views held by the presidential candidates. Dr. Trigg’s talk was both motivating and informative. It’s our hope at AMSA-Premed that we can provide you with many more opportunities to participate in such insightful debates.
*As always, we look forward to seeing you at our future meetings and events!
