New Care Production projects / Care Coordination
Nick Dent, explained that as part of this year’s Quality Account the Patient Experience Team will be leading a project to look at ways that the Trust can improve patients experience of the organisation of care, as highlighted in the National Patient Survey results. Two workshops will be organisedin July and September to discuss with stakeholders i.e. service users, carers, KMPT staff and third sector organisations, their experiences of care coordination and how we can improve these processes. The workshops will use appreciative enquiry methodology and will be led by members of our Experts by Experience Research group.
The group was encouraged to take part in the project: confirmation received from Andy Styles, Philip Chandler, David Hough, James Dallimore
ACTION ND to identify two dates and to share along with aposter with the group

Updates on current
Co-production Projects / Therapeutic Group Programme
Nick Dent explained that Leonie Down plans to organise a Co-production event to review the current moving on group and consider the further development of groups she plans to provide
Groups are:
  1. Mental Health Awareness – to learn about different conditions ACTION Leonie Down to send invitations to this training
  2. Well-being group
  3. Moving-on group – service users from Acute wards at St Martin’s participate in sessions with third sector organisations and KMPT staff on each Wednesday at the Main Hall in St Martins Hospital; twelve sessions organised so far; presentations given by members of SpeakUp CIC, TakeOff, EbyE, KMPT Chaplains, Benefit agency etc.
  • Kay Byatt mentioned that SpeakUp gained two new members as a result of these groups
  • Leonie Down, review of this group is in process

Ward Re-design
David Cousinscollectedthe Patient Experience Learning Award for the project work on refurbishment of Chartwell and Boughton Wards in Priority House during the Patient Experience Shared Learning Event hosted by the North Kent CCGs. The main aim was to involve service users and getting their views on the project. David Cousins led three focus groups, one on each Ward, 16 services users were involved; people who had experience with different wards within the KMPT. The main recommendation was to have single rooms with en suite shower and to have more open space. The trigger for this project was the feedback after the Care Quality Committee (CQC) inspection
Discussion:
  • Benefits of open plan – the group shared their experience
  • What happens to patients from these two wards?
  • Can this be done for the Older People wards; yes this network can help with this project
  • Nick Dent announced that the Trust won the tender for the Mother and baby service

Peer Support Evaluation
This was presented by Nick Dent; Expert by Experience (EbyE) research group to interview fifty people who have experience of Peer Support Workers in the Trust, eight people interviewed so far. Peers identified service users for the evaluation
Suggestions made by the group:
  • Service users to self-refer to EbyE
  • To advertise it via SpeakUp and other organisations
  • EbyE to ask Peers in the Trust for their caseloads so they can contact service users directly

Any Other Business / Louise Piper mentioned the initial co-design meetings for the new East Kent Substance Misuse service. ACTION to share this information about the events with the group
Cheryl Ives invited the group to the open day at Canterbury Umbrella on Tuesday, 20th June; she also mentioned a sponsored bike ride from Canterbury to Whitstable on 27th August – ‘from Cloisters to Oysters’
Leonie Down, planned to purchase tablets for patients at St Martin’s; she asked which Apps would be useful – the group suggested all the mindfulness apps; and to link it to the Live it Well website
Louis Coelho, the lack of a KMPT Carers event during National Carers Week and alsono event held during Dementia Awareness WeekACTION ND to follow it up with Janet Lloyd, Patient, Public, and Community Involvement Manager and the Communication team
