A Turkey Speaks
I have never understood
why anyone would
roast the turkey
and shuck the clams
and crisp the croutons
and shell the peas
and candy the sweets
and compote the cranberries
and bake the pies
and clear the table
and wash the dishes
and fall into bed
when they could sit back
and enjoy a hamburger.

A Recipe for Your Dog
PAN-COOKED TURKEY
1 zucchini
2 carrots
2 cloves garlic
4 potatoes
9 oz (250 g) turkey
1 apple
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
Dice the zucchini and carrots into small cubes. Peel and finely chop the garlic.
Peel and dice the potatoes. Bring to the boil in 1-1/4 cups (300 ml) of water
and simmer on a medium heat for 20 minutes. Then puree roughly in a
food processor.
Dice the turkey and the apple into small cubes, and brown lightly in oil.
Cook for 10 minutes on a low heat. Then mix with the pureed vegetables and
stir in the parsley. Feed in portions, lukewarm or cold.

“Bucky” passed the CGC test on October 3 at eight months of age.
He also passed the UW Children’s Hospital “Pet Pals” Therapy Dog test on August 27 at the age of seven months. Although no dogs are accepted into the program at less than one year of age, it appears he will be able to follow Mom’s pawprints! Bred, owned and loved by
Joy Richardson.

October 8/9, Retrievers Unlimited HRC hosted the last hunt test of the season in Sparta, IL. UKC Ch UH HR Darkwoods North Wind Walker JH SH "Walker" and I danced our way to two Finished passes for the weekend. This pup is loved by Victoria Lunebach
Kaltrav’s Road Trip
“Trip” won WD/BOW both days, from the puppy class, at the Sheboygan KC shows on September 24 and 25. Trip was also Best Puppy on Saturday at the Sheboygan KC shows. Bred, owned and loved by Kathy Turbett.

Dunn's Marsh All That Jazz JH, CD, RAE2, NA, NAJ, NF, WC
“Jazz” earned a 2nd in Open FAST at the agility trial.
Jazz also qualified in both Rally Advanced B and Rally Ex. B for another RAE leg towards her RAE 3.
Furthermore, Jazz earned a 4th place in the breed ring which qualified her for a special award called "Up to the Challenge". Not bad for just a couple of weeks short of 9 years old!

“Summer” qualified in Novice Rally for leg #1. Summer was also in Best of Breed at the National.
Summer and Jazz both received "Lab For All Reasons" awards -- to earn this award dogs must be entered in at least 3 events including conformation as one of them. They must place in conformation or qualify in at least one of the performance events.

"Tori" earned her HRC Started Hunting Retriever title (SHR) by passing tests #3 & #4 Oct 8 & 9 at the Retrievers Unlimited HRC hunt test held in Sparta, IL, at the World Shooting Complex. She titled in 4 straight attempts. On Saturday, first dog was called in after failing to finding a bird. Next two dogs had to be handled to their 2nd birds. There was talk of changing the test because it was too difficult. Tori was the fourth dog to run. She stepped on both marks and ended any further discussion that the test needed to be changed!
