Technology
Competencies: / Basic Computer Operations and Concepts
Multimedia/Presentation Tools
Typing Skills
Objectives: / The student will create a map classifying the different types of triangles by their sides and angles.
Assessment: / Teacher can assess students final map, and how well they are working.
Prerequisite
Knowledge: / Students should have a basic understanding of Inspiration.
Materials and
Resources: / Hardware / Computers, Printers,
Software / Inspiration.
Internet Websites
Other Materials / Students might need their notes or book to help them create their map. (Triangles are on page 260-261 of text)
Procedures: / 1.  Take students to the lab. They can do this activity independently or with a partner.
2.  Tell students they are going to make a map with Inspiration to classify the different types of triangles.
3.  Have students watch as you open Inspiration. Make the top center idea triangles. Ask students for a definition of a triangle. Add this to the map.
4.  Ask students what are two ways we can sort triangles. (Side length and angles.) Make each of these ideas off of triangles.
5.  Tell students they are going to continue making their map using the triangles provided in the geometry library as their examples.
6.  Show students that the equilateral triangle is also an acute triangle, the right triangle is also an isosceles triangle, and the obtuse triangle is also a scalene triangle. This will help them with their examples.
7.  Tell students they will need to put a definition with each triangle as well.
8.  Allow students to make their maps. Assist as needed.
9.  Have students print their maps. Grade and display or have students use as a study guide.
Modifications for Differentiated Instruction: / Students can find other examples to add to their chart if they find this assignment easy.
